GuestI activated your free Connections plugin and I like it a lot! I do want some other features, and I’m trying to discern which upgrade I need. I’d appreciate your help with that discernment process.
I am using it not for an address/contact directory but as a database of practices, so I’m not using many of the fields. Here’s the functionality I’d like:
**Change colors of border and fonts on table display (I’m currently using the “bio” field for the practice and the First and Last Name for the name of the practice)
**Not have First and Last Name required (use Title instead–this is where I’d like to enter the practice title and not have to split it up oddly in First/Last name)
**Sort by title, not F/LName
**Have categories show on the page and be searchableTHanks for your help, Katy

Sorry, I don’t quite follow what you are asking.
re: Not have First and Last Name required (use Title instead–this is where I’d like to enter the practice title and not have to split it up oddly in First/Last name)
Change the entry type that you are adding to Organization. The option is above the “Add New” button on the add/edit entry admin page.
re: Sort by title, not F/LName
I think my previous answer negates this… that said, you can use the oder_by shortcode options to sort the entries by other fields.
re: Have categories show on the page and be searchable
You can use cMap or the category widget included in the Widget Pack. Either will work, choose which you like better.
Hope that helps!

GuestThanks, Steven.
re cMap vs. widget, here’s the other thing i’m trying to do:
when i look at the list view of each entry on the page i put this shortcode on: [connections], there is a light gray border around each entry. that’s the border i want to change to a color that matches my site. do both the cMap and the widget let me make that change? doesn’t look possible in the free plugin, right?
thanks, katy

The border color can be changed in both the free Default Entry Card template and the cMap template. To do this go Connections : Templates admin page and the Customize button for either template. Navigate to the Style customizer panel. There is an option to set the border color. After changing it to your desired color, click the Save and Publish button.
The widgets in the Widget Pack do not have borders so there is no border color to change, For the most part they will inherit the styles that the theme applies to widgets.
Hope that answers your questions thoroughly.

GuestThanks, Steven. I hadn’t even found that area yet!
However, even though I changed the color of the border in the Style section and saved it, it’s not showing up on the page…Any idea why? I forced a refresh…

If you are using a page caching plugin or have a server page cache enabled, be sure to clear those. If that is not it, it is not really possible to know without being able to see the site. If you can share a link, I’ll take a look.

GuestI just cleared the cache in firefox. All my other changes show up immediately, which makes me think this is different…
I can set up a User on my site. Shall I use your helpdesk@ email?

That is because you have the Profile Entry Card template activated. Go to the Connections : Templates admin page and activate the Default Entry Card template.
PS. The Profile Entry Card template has not been updated to use the Template Customizer.
