ParticipantHi! I am thinking of using the Connections plugin as a Community Resource Directory and my client would like, instead of the logo, for a video to be visible in that area. It would be small, but if it’s YouTube it could be enlarged. Is something like that possible?
Thanks!

Sorry, no not out of the box this is not possible. Functionality like this would have o be custom coded extension.

GuestHi Steven, I too am looking at something similar. Would you consider some custom coding to achieve video on pages? I am happy to pay for this if possible. kind regards Colin

Yes, that could be done, but before we discuss that … just in case this is an option. Both the bio and notes fields support shortcodes. This include the WordPress shortcode to embed a video. This works quite well, see the cMap template page. Click the “Show Notes” link, you’ll see two videos. The link could be renamed to Show Video of whatever is applicable.

GuestThanks to both of you! I’m showing this to my client. I like this solution…we’ll see if she does. :-)

GuestHi Steven, Thank you so much for responding so quickly. camp looks an interesting option. However for my needs Gridder looks ideal, Could you create a custom page with the video at the top (on right) and photo (on left) next to the photo. Also some clickable links to play mp3s. Then two blocks of text below introduction and Skills & Experience. I will also need a contact button for a direct email link. A shortlist that enables selection of people and placing them in an area for viewing later would be great too. Let me know what rough costs might be and confirm the front end will be included? Thanks again. Colin

Yes, I received the reply.. sorry I’m a little backlogged with support issues.
What I read is you need several custom fields:
- A text input field for a link to a YouTube video.
- A repeatable text input field for links to MP3 files.
- Still a repeatable field but instead of text fields for links, use the WP Media chooser.
- A textarea for Skills.
- A textarea for Experience.
The you need a custom version of Gridder which embeds the YouTube video in the right with the photo on the upper left.
The other custom fields look like they can be output using the core Content Boxes feature which would be built as part as the custom fields. These can be turned on/off and reordered on the Settings admin page under the Display tab. The new fields would show up there.
The email, there’s already the [Contact extension(http://connections-pro.com/add-on/contact/) available for that. The form is not hidden behind a button though.
Do I have all of that about right?
The last item I didn’t quite understand. What do you mean; “A shortlist that enables selection of people and placing them in an area for viewing later would be great too.“?

Sorry, I will not be able to a shortlist or a bulk email. Please contact me using the contact link at the bottom of the page. We can hash out the final details via email.
Please paste a link to this forum thread so I can relate the two. Thanks!
