ParticipantConnections 8.4.8
Connections Form 2.3
Connections Link 2.0.3
Using Slim Plus template 2.0.1I’ve followed the instructions to add edit capabilities to the user roles, checked off the view edit in the front end, and my users are still unable to edit their profiles on the front end.
I have tested by logging in with my test username/pw, creating a new profile, moderating it behind the scenes, and logging in in another browser with my test UN. I can add a new entry, but cannot see any link to edit my current one.
Completely stumped, this was why we purchased both form and link and I thought it would work out of the box. Can add new profiles, but no editing capabilities.
Thanks

Question, what does the link say? “Submit New Entry” or “Add My Directory Entry”?
If is says the former, go to the Connections : Settings admin page and click the Display tab and disable the “When this option is enabled a “Submit New Entry” link will be displayed. When a user clicks this link they will be taken to a page where they can submit their entry to the directory.” option and enable the “When this option is enabled a “View My Directory Entry” or “Add My Directory Entry” link will be displayed.“.
If it is a later, can I get a temp admin login so I can take a closer look? The login details can be posted here as a private reply.

Ok, I’ve logged in… the “When this option is enabled a “Submit New Entry” link will be displayed. When a user clicks this link they will be taken to a page where they can submit their entry to the directory.” option was still enabled. I disabled it.
Now, the settings are correct but the link still did not show up for the test user. After a little a digging I noticed that you test user “cp” is “linked” to a non-existing entry in Connections. So, somehow, your test user “cp” got out of sync.
My suggestion, delete you test user and re-add it going thru the same process your customers go thru.
On the plus side, the admin login, the entry is linked and the view and edit links display exactly as they should. I noticed there are many other users that are linked too. I suspect the links show just fine for them to. My guess is that just the test user “cp” somehow got messed up.
I did end up delete your test entry in Connections while testing so that is longer in the directory.
Let me know if this helps.

ParticipantPerfect.
I had checked that button off and put it back on so that people could still submit if they wanted to.I will let my client know to test it out.
THANKS!

ParticipantThe only outstanding thing I need to do with this is figure out how to remove associations. We cannot delete users and their profiles and have them start over again, and I know that there are a few people who have valid profiles but they are no longer linked.
I though that by going into the database and changing the owner key that would clear out the links association. Is there a way to accomplish this? That would be an often used feature if not, to be able to “reset” and disassociate a user with a profile so it can link back up again.
Other than that, some of our users can see their edit link.Thanks.

re: The only outstanding thing I need to do with this is figure out how to remove associations. We cannot delete users and their profiles and have them start over again, and I know that there are a few people who have valid profiles but they are no longer linked.
This is also saved in the usermeta table. Look for the
connections_entry_id
for the user id that you want to remove the link from and delete that record. That will break the link and when they next login, Link will relink the user account to the Connections entry based on an email match.
re: That would be an often used feature if not, to be able to “reset” and disassociate a user with a profile so it can link back up again.
This should not be needed, any time an entry is deleted or a user is deleted, link runs and action to delete the usermeta. Now where that can break. Link has to hook into a few standard WP hooks which other plugins can hook and often do hook into. If those other plugins a “greedy” and do not take into consideration that other plugins also hook into the same hook that can cause problems. It would be the first time I’ve run into this. It is malice by the other plugin devs it is they may not fully understand how WP hooks work. I’ve been there myself.
I’m not opposed to adding such a feature but I do fear that adding it could open the door to the possibility of users not fully understanding the effects of using them and cause himself some confusion and frustration. My initial thought of where to add the user interface would be a drop down on the User profile page for the admin to choose the entry to link to. And if an entry is link, instead show a button to unlink. Same for the Connections entry, on the add/edit screen show a list of users available to link to allow the admin to link and if a entry is link show a button to unlink. Do you think something like that would work and not be confusing?

ParticipantHave question related to this same topic. Setting up Church directory and have it configured so users can setup their own entries or use the “Submit New Entry”, but they cannot edit the new entry and I do not know how to link entry to WP users it was created for. Would like to know how to get user who created to be able to edit and/or link to actual user it was created for to be able to edit entry.
Thanks in advance.

Please disable the submit new entry action link and make sure you have the add/edit my entry action link enabled on the Connections : Setting admin page under the Display tab. Make sure you have Link installed and activated. Lastly, make sure the user role has either the add/edit capabilities or the add moderated/edit moderated capabilities.
Hope that helps!
