I was looking at how the category translation is handled by WPML with core WP categories. It’s looking like this will take a very creative solution. That usually means takes time and requiring plenty of testing. Honestly, I think It’s going to be very hard… the 98%, that is making show all the strings in Connections is wrapped in gettext calls which you can visually see because you’re using the French translation of Connections, most of it is in French. The missing bits are for two reasons, the individual that donates their time didn’t translate that string or I missing setting up that string correctly so it could be translated.
At this point I still haven’t heard back from WPML, I’ve sent a second developer request.

ParticipantI found this thread in another forum: http://connections-pro.com/support/topic/french-translation/
Could it be a solution to translate my category names?

No, that is only for the static strings in Connections. Connections already includes a French translation that is 97% complete.

ParticipantHello Steven,
Could you give me an idea of how I could make category names translateable? What would need to be edited in the Connections plugin?
Any timeframe on updates to the plugin that could allow me to translate my categories?

Sorry, but I do not have an answer for you. Category names are variable text that can be anything entered by the user so there is nothing in Connections that I can point you to and say change this. Trust me, if it were that easy I would do it.
At this point, I’m not even certain what WPML does in order to make the WordPress categories translatable. They must create a custom table that hooks into when a category is saved and saves the translations in that table and hook into that same table when a category name is being read which returns the translated category name based on somehow knowing the language chosen by the user. Any way, at this point, that’s just a guess…
As I said, this could take many months once I start working on it. I am sorry, something like this is not easy and it is going to take time.

Sorry, no. I’ve just this week started writing the complete re-write of the underlying taxonomy system.
