GuestHello Steven,
i am interested in using connections. My question is, if it offers a shortcode for a search field, search for keywords in the directory like names or cities, if yes, where can i find it in the documentation.
Regards

For search, you’ll need one of the premium templates. All support search and a category filter. Some have it disabled by default because the design focus is small teams and such but it can be turned on if needed.
Hope that answers your question thoroughly!

GuestHello Steven,
i am looking for two special features:
- I want to have a keyword search field on my start page. for displaying the results, i want to redirect the searcher to a second page called e.g. “search results”.
an expamle: http://better.taxi, test the keyword taxi or taxi rostock. The rest of the plugin is bad, but this special feature is what i am looking for. It is like google. Google don’t offers tons of informations on the start page. All begins with a small search phrase.
Is your plugin able to provide this feature with one of you pro templates?
- I want to offer the option to claim an entry and i want to offer paid entries. Is your plugin able to provide this feature with one of you pro templates?
Regards

re: Is your plugin able to provide this feature with one of you pro templates?
Similar, see this tutorial on how not to show search results until a search is made. But there is no redirection. Another couple solutions:
- Drop the search widget which comes with the Widget Pack on the site’s front page. You could apply custom styling using CSS to make it much larger and more prominent.
- I do have a more advanced search option available. See it in action on this site, the “Find A Therapist“. The top three option are category parents to allow users to search by more than one category. These are configurable and can be turned off if you do not need it. If you are interested in this solution, contact me using the Contact link at the bottom of the page and I can provide a quote which includes installation and configuration.
re: I want to offer the option to claim an entry and i want to offer paid entries. Is your plugin able to provide this feature with one of you pro templates?
No, what I recommend to others is to use a membership plugin like Restrict Content Pro. You can set up Connections with the Link extension so user submissions can only be made by registered users. Using a membership plugin allows you far greater flexibility in being able to monetize your site vs being locked into simply offering a directory entry.
Hope I’ve answers your questions thoroughly!

GuestI already have a great template and want to use Connections for my directory in my current template. Is there an extension I can buy which allows me to add the search functionality?

If you already have a template, then you already have search. Most templates have it on by default. The exceptions would be the Circled and Gridder templates.
To enable search in Circled, follow these docs.
The same instructions apply to Gridder too.
Hope that helps!
