re: If I login via the widget, it leads me to the index-page but not to the directory
Generally the page seen after logging in will be the one the user is already on. If this is not happening it is likely because another plugin or theme has added a login action which overrides the login destination. I recommend reading these two FAQs:
re: If I’m going to be registered as a new user, it leads only to a “castrated” WP-admin page. The settings that I can change there have no influence to my connections profile. Even if I click on “profile” via the widget after logging in, it leads only to the wp-admin profile. I expect to come to my own Connections profile
The user’s profile is the user’s profile in WP. The login widget does not change this. The user’s profile is not a directory entry. They are designed to be completely separate.
re: what I absolutely need is, that every user can set up his/her own Connections profile (add entry) after the registration.
You need the Link extension. Your users will still need to registered. After they register they can add and maintain their own entry in the directory.
re: By the way, an administrator has to approve it first when someone new does a registration. How does this work?
When you setup the Link extension you can chose if the user’s submission is to be moderated or not.
Hope this answers your questions thoroughly!10/17/2016 at 2:20 pm #396077
I got the link extension and it works like it should, thank you!
Even the problem with the index-page didn’t show off anymore.
I will send you my transifex username right now, and have another question concerning the registration: I have to chose at the WP settings > general, that everybody is allowed to register, did I get that right? If I do so, I get a lot of spam users each day, even while I’m using re-captcha. Is there any other possibility? I can’t delete X spam users per day … :-/

I will try this plugin, thanks!
Meanwhile there are some problems with the translation. As you can see in the attached screenshots, important sentences aren’t translated to german. By the way, those who are, where already translated before I started this Transifex stuff – quite funny.
That’s what I did:
– I downloaded the POT File
– I opened it in Poedit
– I saved it
– I named the files to connections-de_DE.mo and po, put them into the languages/connections folder
– and added the code define (‘WPLANG’, ‘de_DE’); to my wp-config.php
I did all of it before with other plugins, there it worked, now it didn’t.
Although I didn’t find the phrase “View (or Edit) My Directory Entry” in the POT File …
Do you have a clue what I could try next?
Have a nice day,

The translations for the core Connections plugin is managed on Transifex. If there are errors or omissions make the changes there. Pulling the connections.pot file would mean that you would have to translate to German from scratch. So, the steps you did very likely contains zero German translated strings. If you want a PO file to save as a MO file, you need to pull the PO file from Transifex.
Now, each extension or template is a separate plugin in WordPress which means each has to be translated separately. The extensions and templates, you would pull the POT or if one exists the PO file for a translation and then make your changes and save the MO file using Poedit.
So… the strings you show in your screenshots, those should be coming from the Link extension. You’ll need to option the connections-link.pot file and create a new German translation. If you do, pleas send it to me and I’ll include it so it will be distributed as part of the Link updates.
Hope that helps!
