The bug is fixed … I should not have change the blogs.dir to sites for the custom templates … not yet any way without providing backwards compatibility code. Technically the folder is now obsolete, so I doubt I’ll ever bother to move it to the uploads folder like I did with the images.
Apologies for the trouble! And thanks for the access … it makes thing like this very quick and easy to figure out.

Thanks for looking at it … but changing it to $uploadInfo['baseurl'] would put it within the uploads folder by date (if that option is enabled like it is by default in WordPress).
Changing it back to blogs.dir is what needs to be done.
This fix will be in the forthcoming 8.1.2 bug fix release going out today.
