ParticipantI can’t quite find an answer to this, but forgive me if this question has been answered: Is there an easy way to create custom fields? I am about to import a lot of data from a CSV file, and many of the fields are not present in the current Connection templates.
What to do?

Sorry, no, there is not a point and click way to add custom fields at this time. Currently this requires a dev to create an extension that will add the required custom fields.

ParticipantThat’s horrible news…

ParticipantBut wait. I am confused. Again.
When adding a post in Connections it does say ‘Add New Custom Field’ at the bottom of the page…Isn’t that exactly what I am looking for? How do I make this custom field show up in a theme like Slim Plus?03/18/2015 at 6:29 pm #323437Anders
ParticipantI can see that you wrote the following:
With that said… I did build one thing into the core Connections and
its core templates. Watch the first video again… Anything entered into
the custom fields metabox will be displayed on any of the core
templates as an unordered list. So one can put add any textual based
meta to any specific entry.I tried inserting a couple of custom fields, but they don’t show up – not in Slim Plus, not in the default template. I am confused….
I hope you can help.

CSV Import can not import into that.re: I tried inserting a couple of custom fields, but they don’t show up – not in Slim Plus, not in the default template. I am confused…
That is because you need to turn on the Custom Fields Content Block on the Settings admin page under the Display tab. Of note, the option is in two spots. One for the Result List, the other for the single entry. This is to allow you to choose the context in which a content block will be displayed.03/18/2015 at 7:04 pm #323440Steven Zahm

Should mention… just about any time someone is asking about custom fields, they are not asking about those custom fields but rather something like, Education Level, Languages, Income level and Business Hours.
It is those types of custom fields that require a dev to create an extension for to extend Connections.

Oh, posted too quick…
Yes, this is a little confusing… but it is the same terminology issue WordPress has too… In a post you can add Custom Fields. A dev could extend the post with a custom field.
See for yourself… go add a new post, there is a custom fields metabox. Plugins that extend the post with custom fields, but they are not related to the Custom Fields metabox other than the actual data gets saved to the same place in the database.
Hopefully that did not confuse you more!

ParticipantThanks for your replies. It means so much that you actually reply!
So, basically, I can show custom fields (and yes, I am talking about ordinary text fields, nothing fancy), but I cannot CSV import to these custom fields?
Because I read (sorry to quote you again, but I have been/am searching eagerly for a solution)
CVS Import will have an update release at the same time to support the
ability of plugins that add custom fields to also extend the import
importing into those custom fields from a CSV file.http://connections-pro.com/support/topic/its-back-custom-fields-request/page/2/

ParticipantIs there any way at all, I can somehow get CSV import to import into my custom fields? I have totally relied on Connections to be the plugin for my site and worked on it to look and function good.
Now, I have to find a completely new solution unless this CSV import problem can be solved.
Oh, how I hope it can be done somehow.
