After yesterday’s plugin update, it seems my site now has a theme conflict (X-Theme) that didn’t previously exist. The problem is I can no longer add new users to the site (won’t create a password). The only thing that has changed between the last user add and today was this plugin update.
Changing to the default 2015 theme resolves the issue, but deactivating this and all other plugins does not resolve it in the needed theme.
Any ideas for a solution?
Thanks!11/10/2015 at 12:45 pm #354413
How odd… Connections does not interact with add user at all unless your are using the Link extension which has not had an update in many months. Are you using Link?
Now, that said, WP recently changed the way new users are added in regards to passwords. Can you give me more details, maybe even screenshots which might help better explain the issue; “won’t create a password“?11/11/2015 at 11:00 am #354538
Hi Steven, I Apologize for the delayed response. I am using the link extension. When I go to manually add a user to my website, the “Show Password” button appears, but does not do anything. If I enter the user name and email, then click submit, it returns “ERROR: Please enter password”.(Which I can’t becuse the password button isn’t working)
As I indicated, the site under it’s current theme was functional up until I updated the connections plugin. I had a similar issue with a competitor listing plugin and is why I chose yours… especially because you respond to your users! :) If I switch to a default theme, I can manually add a user again, but I certainly don’t want the default theme. Attached is a screen shot of the error after trying to manually add a “sample” user if it helps.
Hope you can steer me in the right direction.

I just tried disabling the Link extension to no avail.11/11/2015 at 11:13 am #354543
Well, no, that is very odd because even with Link installed Connections and Link do not interact with that page at all… no scripts, CSS, WP hooks or anything.
Something is definitely weird though if switching theme’s fix it…
Here’s a test for you to try…
We know that switching theme’s work fine. How about leaving the theme activate and deactivating Connections. Does that allow you to add a user? If it does not, then the error is not from Connections since it is not activated. Now, if it does fix the issue, I’ll need a temp WP admin login so I can take a closer look to see how this is happening and fix it.11/11/2015 at 11:32 am #354555
Deactivating every plugin didn’t have any effect. Reactivating every plugin in a default theme, the site works as it should (just doesn’t look pretty) LOL
Appears it may indeed be a theme issue. Must have been a simple coincidence with the plugin update.
Thanks Steve, while you haven’t solved my issue, you have helped me determine it isn’t your plugin (which IS fantastic).
I’ve got some more work to do I guess.11/11/2015 at 12:35 pm #354558
I believe I found a fix (at least it’s working for now).
Thought I would post a follow-up in case someone else experiences any similar (and very odd) issues. Mine turned out to not be plugin or even theme specific, and appeared to only affect my primary computer as other devices worked just fine. Which made it even more difficult to isolate and trace down.
Thanks again for your assistance!
