For each login edit, there needs to be a wordpress login, but what permissions should I give so that the people cannot edit our website?

The default WordPress “Subscriber” role is what you should assign. It gives the user now additional permissions to the site other than being able to edit their display name and password. And, of course their directory entry in this case.
