I’m getting this warning and the upload is not succeeding. I am getting a 500 Error from the server suggesting I change the permissions or update the htaccess file, but I don’t know exactly what to do.
Any help?

It sounds like your server is configured to display PHP notices. You should ask your webhost to configure it to log them instead in the PHP error_log file. That is what should be done on a production server. Granted, I should clean up the script a little so it doesn’t create notices at all … which will be done as part of the complete re-write I am working on.
Any way, after they make that change, try importing again because that could fix the 500 error too. If you still get an error, please let me know. We’ll try something else.

ParticipantHi Steven,
I was able to import another, simpler file, and it worked fine. Seems to be something wrong with the file I’m trying to import. I get to the page where it says “154 records found” but when I try to import, I get the 500 error.
When I try to import it as a csv I immediately get a “Error: Incorrect type of file.” I changed the extension to txt and I got to the next step but still no import.
I attached the file here. Can you look at it and tell me what’s wrong with it or how I can fix it?

I think it might be an issue with line 42, Double Cookin. The character after the “n” seems to be some sort of extended character. Neither Sublime nor NotePad seemed to be able to make much sense of it.
It seems that you’re hosts server is not setup to accept or [maybe] correctly identify the “csv” file mime type which is why naming it to txt works. That’s fine as the CVS Import will happily accept a txt file too.
I’ve attached a copy of the csv, named as a txt, with that character removed. Let me know if that solves it for you or not.

ParticipantI cleaned up the file, and put it into a format that I would like to use. I am hoping that it can be administered by spreadsheet. Since volunteers will be submitting the information in various formats. But I am still having trouble.
I get to stage 2 and everything seems OK. Then I get the 500 error. I have Hostgator working on checking the server and have beefed up the time limits in the php.ini, but still have found no answer.
Is it possible you can try to import this file into a test install and see if it imports for you? Is it me? Is it the server? Is it the file? I could use some help with an independent test to narrow this down.
I can also give you credentials if you want to try it on my installation.

Certainly, I’ll get back to tomorrow as soon as I can get some testing done. It’ll be no later than mid afternoon.
Also, the creds would be helpful. You can post them here as a private reply.

I test imported the CSV files. They worked fine for me. I did notice there are a few row using fancy quotes. Even though the rows imported maybe that is what is causing the issue. Any way, when I get a login I try on your site to see what the issue may be.

Yeah, memory will not be an issue with only 150’ish rows to import.
Any way, I was able to import the file. I have an alpha version of next update that more or less just skips the second step and it imported nearly instantaneously.
I left it installed. Since it is alpha it is quirky. For example, your CSV had blank fields for first name/last name and if you mapped them they would be imported as individuals rather than organizations. Al it does not import social media and IM data yet.
I hope that helps!
