When attempting to import a vCard into Mac OSX Contacts I get the following error: “No Importable Cards Were Found.”
After doing some digging I found that this issue is caused by a blank line generated before “Begin” in the vcard file (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5055110?start=0&tstart=0). Once this is removed it imports fine.
Can you help with a quick fix for this? I think it’s also causing issues with Outlook on Mac.
Thanks in advance!08/14/2013 at 12:59 pm #267245
I noticed the extra lines the other week, not sure where they’re coming from as they are not in my code and they didn’t use to be there. Sorry, but right now, I do not have a quick fix.09/02/2013 at 4:15 pm #268530
I think this is fixed in the soon to be released 0.7.9 version. Let me know if it does or does not resolve it for you when you update.03/14/2014 at 4:08 pm #282277AndrewGuest
This is still not resolved. The first line of the generated .vcf file is a blank line resulting in the “No Importable Cards Were Found.” error. When I delete the line and so that BEGIN:…. is on the first line it works just fine.
How do I control the generation of this .vcf and remove the blank line?
Please assist.03/15/2014 at 10:50 am #282286
Which app is giving your the error? I no longer have access to a Mac so I can no longer test on that platform…
Could you attached a vCard that is not being imported so I can take a look?
I wonder if changing this line from
echo $data;to this
echo trim( $data );will fix it.03/27/2014 at 3:49 pm #283583TracydGuest
Have anyone found a solution to this issue yet? I am currently attempting to use this awesome plugin on a client site, but we are still having the vcard issues on MacOSX. The source code for the exported vcard still has 1 blank line before the vcard code begins, thus causing the error with MacOSX Address Book. Address Book does not recognize the .vcf file as an importable file.
Please help!!!! I attempted the fix with “echo trim( $data );”. It does not work. Any thoughts or solutions?03/28/2014 at 10:49 am #283613
When I download vCards I do not get the blank line. Which version of Connections do you have installed? Which browsers and versions have you tested with?03/28/2014 at 5:18 pm #283647TracydGuest
Thanks for responding. I am using Connections ver 0.7.9.5 and WP 3.8.1.
As far as testing environments: I am developing and testing on MacOSX ‘Mavericks’ with all major browsers (Mac Chrome, Safari, Firefox & an Emulated IE 8/9/10). I am getting the same problem on all of the browsers. Whenever I attempt to download a VCard, the source code continues to have a blank line in the first line of code.
What’s even more frustrating is the fact I visited on of your sample sites and downloaded a vcard — and it worked fine.
Whatever available solution you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.
PS- I also wanted to compliment you on your consistency and diligence in responding to your Support Forum. It’s awesome to see a developer help the development community as much as you do. Kudos! And Kudos to an awesome plugin. I just need to get it to work for me. ;-)
Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately I am unable to replicate this. I tested version 0.7.9.5 and my latest dev version. Perhaps something to do with the setup of the local dev; maybe?
Since you do have a dev setup, could you pull the latest dev version from Github?
I did remove a
?>which was followed by a blank new-line in this dev version. This in theory could cause the new line issue in the vCard file.
And thanks! If you have a moment, I would truly appreciate a review as they really make a difference. Many thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for the updated plugin. I do have one quick question though — I opened up the ‘includes’ folder on the latest plugin that you hooked me up with and did not see the class.vcard.php file. I noticed that there are a number of new/different files throughout the folders. I didn’t want to do a new install of the plugin (as I didn’t want to risk losing any of the data that I have already entered, there are a lot of them).
Please advise me on the best way to handle this. If I deactivate the Connections plugin that I am currently using and uninstall it, will I lose all of my current data? If not, will the latest plugin that you sent me recognize everything once I install and activate it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
