ParticipantI have read alot of forums but not sure I am finding the right answer. Here is my situation.
I have a client that wants to be able to display certain entries at the top, called Enhanced Listings. The rest of the entries for all other categories would be listed underneath. I figured out how to use short code to display just one category but it means having two different listings on the same page, not sure that will work.
The second piece is that if a person selects any category from the dropdown, we want any business that is categorized as Enhanced (obviously along with the category selected) to show up at the top as well for the filtered results.
It looks like I can’t use order_by to order by category. I read about the extension Customer Entry. Would that work? I could set any business I want that is enhanced with a order ID of 1 and all other business as 2. Then no matter what is displayed, all categories, or just one, any business with Order ID of 1 will display at the top. Am I understanding that right?

The short answer is, yes, I do think the Custom Entry Order extension will meet your needs.
With this you could set the order of the entries you wish to have list top and in a specific order.
To set an entry to display at the top, you would set the entry order to
1
. To have an entry show second, after the entry assigned to1
you would assign that entry the order of2
. If there is no entry assigned as1
, then the entry assigned 2 would actually be first. That said, I would recommend setting order by 10’s or even 100’s. This will allow you the opportunity to insert entries in between others. For example having entries assigned orders of
100
,200
and300
would display those entries in that order at the top. So you could insert an entry in between100
and200
by assigning the order as150
.When filtering by category, the entry order would still be applied.
Hope that makes sense!

ParticipantThank you Steven. It looks like that worked! Is there a way to display the categories assigned to an entry on the entry itself. I want to be able to pull up an entry and see a list of categories it is assigned to. This is important since many of our businesses can have more than one category.

Yes, since you are using the cMap template… navigate to the Connections : Templates admin page and click the Customize button for cMap.
The page will reload displaying the Customizer on the left and a preview on the right. Enable the display of the categories and click the Publish button. If you wish to also display this on the single entry profile view on cMap, follow the instructions above the list in the preview and enable the category option again.
Hope this helps!
