I am currently using connections as part of my local interactive guide for the small island I live on in the west coast of Scotland. I have used/tried so many of these platforms and they are… well pretty much all crap.

Connections however is simple, easy to integrate and does exactly what I wanted.

There are a couple of things that would help to make this even better however…

* Listing Ratings: The ability for visitors to rate, and review businesses / listings with owners of the listings able to respond.

* Like: A stand along ‘like’ system so that users can show affection towards a business but also so that businesses become invested in the site ‘collecting’ likes.

* Listings overview map: Ability to display a map with all the listings on it either total or from specific categories.

* Ability to change the pin on the listing map. Default Google pin looks pretty naff.

* Automatically hyperlinked phone numbers: So that mobile users can simply click the number and have it dial it / save it to their phonebook.

* Coupons: Ability for for listing owners to be able to add coupons to their listings that visitors can print off or save to their phone.

I have a ton of other requests as well that I think could really improve what is already a great plugin, but don’t wanna push my luck too early on ;)

Yep, all of these are on my extension to do list.

Making the phone number links … you can do that already. Go to the Connections : Settings admin page. You can enable it under the Advanced tab.

Please keep the ideas coming. I do keep very care track of what is being requested and use the ideas for planning.

Do you have any sort of timescale on these features, I’m particularly keen on a “Like” / Favourite system and also listing reviews, however most of the plugins available for wordpress work on the basis of posts and pages, as the listings in connections are different from this – the plugins are unable to separate the listings… so I run into problems where likes on one listing are also added to other listings.

Any ideas or do you have a timescale for your own solution to this?

Well, the reviews and rating is being developed by a third party. It has been deployed on one site but it not yet ready for general sale.

The rest. As soon as I can get them completed. What that means in timeframe, honestly, I can not give an answer to that.

Was the ratings and reviews add-on ever released? Could really do with that function. Have just loaded the Connections plugin and am looking forward to testing it out.
