GuestAwesome plugin Steven, really stands apart from all others.
I’m building a university academic department directory and the card template is really all we need, however, I’ve made a few modifications. I’m taking advantage of the ‘Custom Fields’ part for info about where people got their degrees. I’m also using the ‘Notes’ field for research topics of people. I’ve been able to edit the php and/or use the Say What? plugin, as you’ve suggested, to change the titles of these fields. It does seem like the ‘Custom Fields’ component is not necessarily part of the template, and is in the core code, so editing that might not be update safe.
Anyway, my question is any recommendation to conserve vertical space on the card page. An example is here. I’d maybe like to move the ‘Education’ part to the right, for example. Just condense the card a bit so when we populate the page it’s not too long. Or any other suggestion you may have. The full profile page looks pretty good.
Thanks for any help!

GuestI guess I’ve figured out how to do a little bit of what I asked. If there are any other suggestions, that would be great.

Correct, the custom fields output is generated from the code in the core plugin. It is not safe to change code in the core plugin much like it is not safe to change code in the core code of WordPress.
re: my question is any recommendation to conserve vertical space on the card page.
I suppose you could use template override files and re-layout the template to better meet your needs.
re: If there are any other suggestions, that would be great.
Does not look like you are using images, so you could get right of them and free up that space.
