ParticipantHello,
Today I purchased the extension “Widget Pack” for $9.99 for my website. Currently I am paying WordPress support $149.00 a month to help me develop my website. I had them help me find your extensions, purchase it, and help try to set it up. Unfortunately we could not set it up correctly and need assistance.
This is the website that we our trying to copy with the “Select Category” and “Search” http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing/ bars
This is my website page where we are trying to set it up.
https://www.wingchunnews.ca/find-a-school/
As you can see the category is not a drop down box like the other site and the search bar looks different too, its search bar on my site does not look the same, search bar is big but the magnifying glass is smaller.
Do we need to buy a theme to make this work to or does the Widget Pack plugin work on its own.
On my site, just you know, I’m using Creativo 6, which I understand is one of the more advanced theme packages for WordPress.
Also when you visit http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing/ it has a map next to the directory. How do I set up my directory so it has a map also? Does that feature cost extra?
What I’m trying to do is create a directory for Wing Chun Kung Fu practitioners from around the world. I have a Facebook page with 1.8 million followers and we always get questions about where is there a Wing Chun school near me so I could learn. So I’m hoping to set it up so people can just type there city, country, or practitioner they want in the search bar and they can easily find a school or teacher in there area.
Below is the message my WordPress support technician sent to there help team. The last support technician was trying to copy the work from http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing/ but I believe he didn’t know what theme was being used so he said he could not figure it out?
Any help to set up this directory would be greatly appreciated.

ParticipantThis is the message I received back. Is this correct and is there a way to add the maps?
Hello there,
If you are trying to match the directory template to this page https://newsroom.findlay.edu/experts-guide/ I recommend looking at this template https://connections-pro.com/add-on/excerpt-plus/
To activate your plugin template go to Connections > TemplatesThere is a template overview here http://connections-pro.com/documentation/templates/
And lastly try adding two more entries. Go to Connections > Manage to view all entries.

ParticipantI just have one more question. How do I get my pictures to fit into the Image Box. If you look at the pictures in my directory they are zoomed in to much which is causing the images to look to close, so in my case you only see the persons chest and not there entire body. Is there a way to fix this or adjust my pictures to a certain size so they all fit correctly. Do you know of a way to resize my pictures with a app or website, or perhaps theres a setting I can adjust in my website plugin?
Thanks again.03/29/2018 at 11:35 am #457078Steven Zahm

This site, http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing/, the one you are trying to copy is using the cMap template. This is the template I would recommend for you. It supports the category drop down filter, the keyword search field and a Google Map “out of the box”. See the demo on this page of cMap.
Configuring cMap is the easiest because it utilizes the Customizer to provide you with a point and click interface and a live preview. It includes many options including support for how the image is scaled/cropped as well as many visual styling settings to control the color of various elements within the template.
The little map in the sidebar of http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing/ is not a feature in Connections or any of its addons. Looking at the page source of the site, it appears they are using and iFrame widget and ebedded this page, https://www.jimapco.com/maproom/midwestfiberartstrails/rsp.html, within the widget’s iFrame. The map appears to be created with this service: http://www.jimapco.com/.
Your last post mentioned this site: https://newsroom.findlay.edu/experts-guide/. It does indeed use the Excerpt Plus template which does include the category drop down filter and keyword search. It does not yet support displaying a map of the entry on a map. It also is more difficult to configure on because it requires configuration via many shortcode options vs using the Customizer. Also, in regards to the image, you would have to “preprocess” image before uploading them to the entry so they will scale and fit appropriately within the thumbnail size available in the template.
You have provided a lot of details. I hope I have not missed anything and have provided you with clear direction. Hope this helps!

ParticipantThanks for a lot the help Steven.
I downloaded cMap like you suggested and everything looks great, including the maps.
Can you please tell me how I can make my “Search Bar” and select “Select Category” tabs look the same as http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing .
Right now the ‘Select Category’ tab looks to long, it goes across the entire page from left to right.
I’d like too see the “Select Category” tab to be a lot smaller like on http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing.
I’d also really like to see the “Search Bar” to be smaller too, that way both tabs are side by side just like on http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing.
On the “Search Bar” tab, and the magnifying glass on the search bar is not the same size. The magnifying glass is a little smaller than the search bar, I like it too be the same sizes like on http://midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing .

The problem I’m having is that I have to add code to style your Connections template to match midwestfiberartstrails.org/listing page and I can’t.
These are all the templates available https://connections-pro.com/templates/ the one used for midwestfiberartstrails.org is this one https://connections-pro.com/add-on/excerpt-plus/ Don’t forget to click on Demo to test the template.I just can’t code the entire css to match it.

RE: Right now the ‘Select Category’ tab looks to long, it goes across the entire page from left to right.
That is due to a style the theme applied globally to select drop downs. Please try adding this to the theme’s custom CSS area:
#cn-cmap form.cn-form select.cn-category-select { width: auto; }
RE: On the “Search Bar” tab, and the magnifying glass on the search bar is not the same size. The magnifying glass is a little smaller than the search bar, I like it too be the same sizes
This also is due to a theme style overriding the template. Add this to the theme’s custom CSS area:
#cn-list span input, #cn-list span input[type=text] { min-height: auto; }
After these two CSS statements are added that should fix the the display. Hope that helps.
