There is no search on desktop either. Did you turn it of with the shortcode option in or the Template Customizer. I suggest verifying that it is in fact enabled.
Or…
Are you asking about the search for the category drop down? Right, that is by design because mobile devices have there own implementation for drop downs that have been optimized for mobile use. When on a mobile device you will see the devices implementation of a drop down. For example, on iOS, it pop ups a “window” with a scrollable list.
Edit
Mobile devices take over the control and display of select drop downs. this is not a limitation in Connections. This is a feature in mobile.

GuestSteve, I was referring to the mobile search with the drop down directory. A user should have to scroll through an entire directory looking for a category to get to the business there. Particularly large category directories. I don’t understand why there can’t be a search box like it is on desktop for categories??

The searchable category drop down filter is a third party library to enhance select drop down with that search capability.
On mobile… the devices, the operating system web browser has it own control for select drop downs. these are built in mobile controls which is not possible to add a search filter to, because, well, they are built in to os web browser and have been optimized for mobile device usage.
