ParticipantHi Steven,
If I use the generic WordPress Search, or the search plugin ‘Better Search’, it will break down if it crosses a search argument that is in the Connections Database.
I use the Genesis framework for WordPress.
The generic WordPress Search will try to load sequentially the pages that contain the search term. It will break down when it hits the Connections Database page. A blank page will popup with always the same email address in the left top.
The plugin ‘Better Search’ will show that the search argument is also on the Connections Database page (in my case cmap). When you hit the link it will also show a white page, with always the same email address in the left top.
Can you help out?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe exclude the page from the search results with this plugin?

ParticipantHi Steven,
That would work, but it is not a very sexy solution. Connections is not intended to work with a search engine? Would be a shame :(

No, Connections does not integrate with the core WP search since it is specialized. This is why it has its own search.
A “blank result” for the page with the
[connections]
shortcode on it would be expected if the shortcode is the only content on the page because WP does not render shortcodes in the search result summary results. The page title should still be shown plus what ever page meta the theme shows as part of the search results.Clicking thru on the page title in the search summary results should take you to the page and the directory show up as normal, not a blank page. Is it here that you are getting a blank page? If that is the case, that does not seem like a Connections issue. Clicking the page link from the search results should be no different from clicking the page link from the site nav.
That email address, doesn’t sound like that is being output by Connections to me, but coming from somewhere else.
Its really hard to say what the issue is and what the solution will be without being able to see it… can you attached screen captures showing the Connections page in the search results and what it looks like after you click thru to the page?

ParticipantHi Steven,
Thanks again for your fast reply. Requested the option in ‘Better Search’ to exclude pages. You can see for your self. Site is
http://mainecoon.nl/wordpress/
Connections database is here: http://new.mainecoon.nl/wordpress/catteriesIf I search for a term that only exists in the database (example Abash) the following result page is generated:
http://new.mainecoon.nl/wordpress/?s=abeshA link to http://new.mainecoon.nl/wordpress/catteries is in the result page.
If you click it, for a fraction of a second the contents of http://new.mainecoon.nl/wordpress/catteries is shown. Then a blank page with an email address from the database is shown in the top left corner.
The same behaviour with the standard search engine from WordPress. If it can be fixed from your end that would be great. If the creator of ‘Better Search’ comes with a possibility to exclude pages, it is also solved.
If you need access or something, let me know.

There’s a script being run, not Connections, that seems to be doing this. Which one I’m not sure, but when I disable javascript in my browser, the page is fine. Unfortunately you’re going to deactivate plugins one at a time until the issue stops to identify the plugin that is doing this.

Participant@Steven,
Thanks again for your fast reply. The creator of ‘Better Search’ is adding the option to filter out pages from the search engine. That should be sufficient ;)08/04/2014 at 6:04 am #299475Axel
Participant@Steven,
Found the culprit: Highlight Search Terms.Too bad, because it is an excellent addon. Will have to find a replacement :(

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve added this as a plugin conflict to my issue tracker. I want to at least check to see if this is somehow Connections fault — I do not believe it is, but I want to make sure.
