GuestSo far I’m liking the features of this software, but I’m not sure which plugins to buy to get the overall functionality I require. Specifically, I need this page: http://034bd47.netsolhost.com/new/membership-directory/
to display search functionality of the directory, so that users can search for members by category or by name. I don’t necessarily want the entire directly listed here. This is the page that currently houses the shortcode [connections]. I’m sure I’m not doing this right, since there is probably shortcode specific to the search. I see the search customization options. But not the shortcode.
I also see the widget packet has a search widget, but I don’t need a widget. I just need a search page. Maybe you can’t have a search page without the widget? Please advise.

If I understand correctly, you want to show only the category and the search field, with no initial results being displayed? Right now that isn’t possible. I am getting that request a bit more often now, so I have added to my feature request list.

GuestHi Steven,
I’m curious if you’ve implemented the functionality regarding search on a page of its own as you mentioned in your answer to @ Mercer. I, too, do not want any search results on our initial employee search page. Simply want category and search to appear so it forces the user to either select a category or key in search terms before any results appear.
Thank you.

Nothing is built in at the moment. Other users have set the
category
shortcode option to an empty category. No results will be shown this way until a selection is made.08/07/2013 at 4:46 am #266657Rob
GuestHi,
I am doing some proof of concept work on a new site and “Connections” looks like it might fit the bill perfectly. However like the other posters in this thread I would like a search box to appear with no initial results. Do you have an ETA on when this might be done? I will try your workaround for now while testing.
Thanks

GuestIf there is no update to this feature can you please explain the work around with the empty category?

I’m not sure the category option works entire as expected. What other users have done create an empty category that will not be used and added
category=x
to the shortcode. X would equal the ID of the unused category. This would cause no results to be shown. When a user selects a category from a template that category will be shown and a user can search within that category, but I think without a category being chosen and if a search is performed, no results would be shown because the search would be limited to the empty category. I haven’t tested this myself, this is what others have communicated back to me. I hope that makes sense and helps. -
