1/ I can’t work out how to add the search fields to the top of the directory page?
2/ how do we show the different categories under the search fields but ensure that the search is conducted across both categories?

RE: I can’t work out how to add the search fields to the top of the directory page?
All the premium templates enable the frontend keyword search functionality and also enables the ability to filter by category. Several of the templates do have these features off by default by can easily be turned on.

As mentioned, all the premium templates include a category filter, but if you want category links instead. You would disable the category filter and then use the Enhanced Categories extension.
Hope this helps! Let me know.
