ParticipantI’ve checked the “Require registered users to login before showing the directory’ option and I see in the Roles that it adds a permission to allow each role to view public entries. We have open registration on the system, but I don’t want to allow newly registered users to see the entries. To achieve this I remove that permission from the Subscriber role, but I leave it on the Premium Subscriber role. Once an administrator confirms the user, she can change the user’s role to Premium Subscriber so the user can see the public entries.
The problem I’m seeing is that after going through the site checking other settings, I will come back to the roles to discover that the permission to view public entries has been reapplied to the Subscriber role.
Is this expected behavior, or should I be able to remove a permission and that removal will stay effective?

The only time the Connections Roles settings will reset is upon a Connections update. The Roles/Capabilities settings use the standard WordPress methods for their creation and management, so they are persistent even if Connections is deactivated and deleted. If the settings are changing, the cause is most likely another plugin, although, I’ve never run across that before.
So, with that said, is possible that you’re only checking the settings after a Connections update?

ParticipantThanks Steve,
By update, do you mean updating to a new version of Connections, or simply modifying other settings for Connections?
I did not install a new version of Connections during this time. I agree it is very strange and I don’t know what I do that causes the settings to revert.
For now, I’ve changed all the entries to Private and I’ve added that permission to Premium Subscriber. I don’t want to risk exposing e-mail addresses and phone numbers to the Internet at large.

I mean installing an update to Connections, not changing the settings in Connections.
What other plugins do you have installed? Which membership plugin do you have installed?
