ParticipantHi,
I successfully removed the birthday years from people’s entries in the directory by adjusting the date format in the settings tab. However, this doesn’t seem to have affected the way birthdays are listed in the Upcoming Birthdays widget. Birthdays are still listed with the current year. How can I remove the year from the widget as well? I just want Month, Day.
Thank you!

ParticipantI should add that it isn’t inserting actual birth years – it is listing all birthdays in the widget with 2014.

When you first add the widget it will use the date format that is set. If you change the date format after, it will still use the originally set. The date format can be changed in the widget itself on the Appearance : Widgets admin page. This is by design so a different date format can be set in the widget.
The upcoming anniversaries and birthdays are listing the “upcoming” date, not the actual date of the birthday. So, the years, when shown, will display the “upcoming” year. To explain further… If the celebration date has already past in the current year the following year will be shown. If the date is yet to come this year, the current year will be shown.
The reason for the design decision is because most people would rather the year not be shown so someone can figure out the exact age. Hope that make sense.

GuestThank you!! I can’t believe I didn’t even check the widget itself.
I get where you’re coming from on not having the year of birth displayed…I just didn’t want the current year either as it seemed sort of obvious that upcoming birthdays would be in the current year. Plus with a list of 20 of them, the “2014” starts to look really repetitive visually. But I got it sorted out and removed on the widget.
Thank you so much!!
