ParticipantHi! I recently searched the forum to find an answer to a problem that I had. I am using LINK to allow customers to log into the website so they can make changes to their directory listing. The client (website owner) did not want the customers to make changes to the categories of the individual listings – so I searched the forum and found this helpful tip:
add to line 4 of the member.php
remove_meta_box( ‘categorydiv’, $connections->pageHook->link, ‘side’ );That effectively removed the categories from the edit page when the customers logged into their account. What I just realized, though, is that when the listings are saved, the categories are being cleared out – and reset to uncategorized. Is there a way to remove the category from the LINK edit page – yet not clear out their categories each time the customer makes a change to their listing? In essence, make no changes to the category selections of that listing when saved?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I think you can do this by adding some CSS.
.users_page_connections_link #categorydiv { display: none; }This will not stop a very clever person from unhiding it and making changes though.
I hope that helps.

ParticipantI must be doing something wrong. I removed the added line to the connectionsLinkManage class (“remove_meta_box” on line 4) and then added the css to not display the categorydiv – yet the category section was visible when I logged in as a user (subscriber) to manage my own directory listing. What the client wants is for the categories to not be selectable unless you are a wordpress administrator – users should be able to edit their directory information but not select categories.
I added the CSS to the theme style sheet – and tried with an !important at the end. I examined the page code – and the css should have worked. Not sure what I am doing wrong…

Adding it to the theme style.css file will not do it because that is not loaded in the admin.
Add it to the
cn-admin.min.cssfile found here:../wp-content/plugins/connections/assets/css/I just tried it, it definitely hides the category metabox in Link.

ParticipantPlacing the CSS in the connections file definitely did the trick. But that ended up hiding the categories box for ALL users – admin and subscribers. After some digging around, I found that placing this line:
echo ‘<style type=”text/css”> #categorydiv { display: none; } </style>’;
in the LINK manage.php on line 122 (in the if current user can edit section) hid the category links from the subscriber (who only has edit ability in their role) but the admin was still able to view the category listings and make the necessary updates when needed.
I think that should work, and will be running a few more tests to make sure.

Yeah, that would hide it to all users. My assumption was if you’re an admin you would just use the Manage page to update their entry since they have access to it. The important bit was to hide it from the subscribers; right? Any way what you did accomplish the same, so it should work too.
