ParticipantHi There,
I’ve added the ‘recently added’ widget… now i’m trying to work out how to get it to go to its Region page when clicked. Instead it goes to the head categories page and it should go to a page like this page for example
Under Connections > settings > links > regions, I have ticked.
I’ve looked around and fiddled a bit here and there but work out why its not going to the correct page.

ParticipantI think my first post may just sound confusing. Sorry.
I just want the places that appear in the ‘recently added’ widget to go to the state (region?) that it has been categorised under. Is that possible?

The links in the widgets should link to the page set as the Directory Home Page on the Connections : Settings admin page under the General tab.
It does not appear to be happening for you because the links are resolving to a WordPress category archive page.
Notice the link before clicking it, it has a link like this:
http://cuptaste.com/coffee-roasters/name/yowie-coffee/Watching the network requests, I can see WordPress doing a 301 redirect to this:
http://cuptaste.com/category/coffee-roasters/This is a category archive page.
The only time I see this is when a post and/or a page and/or a taxonomy term ends up with the same slug. In this case that would be
coffee-roasters
.When this happens … WordPress gets confused as to which page should be shown.
What you’ll need to do is track down which of these, page or post, or taxonomy ended up with a duplicate slug and change the slug so it is unique.
If you do not want to hunt that down, you can work around it by creating a “Results” page for Connections and set the Directory Home Page to the “Results” page. On the “Results” page you would simply have the
[connections]
shortcode with no options. When a link in a widget is clicked in a widget it resolved to the “Results” page rendered using the single view of the cMap template. The “Results” page can be named anything … in your case, you could name it “Coffee Roaster”, then assuming there is no slug forcoffee-roaster
, the widget links will be:
http://cuptaste.com/coffee-roaster/name/yowie-coffee/There is no way to link to a specific page, your regions, with your setup, sorry!
I hope this helps resolves the issue, let me know.

ParticipantThe links in the widgets should link to the page set as the Directory
Home Page on the Connections : Settings admin page under the General
tab.I have coffee roasters page as the home page and tried ‘results’ as you suggested, It takes me here
http://cuptaste.com/results/name/piccolo-coffee-roasters/ which is as intended I guess. My setup is that I dont use any of the individual posts (or pages or whatever they are called) but is grouped according to region but as you say linking to these cant be done.I also tired the the widget ‘connection categories’ but i’ve bummed out on that one because I cant (dont want to) change the URL because of social media shares. I get taken to this page http://cuptaste.com/results/cat/au/sa/ which is the right result, but wrong URL – this page would be better for me :)
http://cuptaste.com/coffee-roasters/south-australian-coffee-roasters/I might look around for a redirect widget (not sure if that would work or be viable) because I would really like to use use some of the connections widgets, they are great.
Thanks for your assistance.

Yeah, the issue is that the setup, each region is broken out on its own page. There’s no way for the widget to know which page each entry should link to. The “results” page is the only work around I can think of … I’m not sure how a redirect plugin would work, I’ve never tried it when “deep” links within Connections. You’ll have to let me know if that is a workable solution or not.
Something on the near horizon that may work for you…
I’m working on a major rewrite of the Widget Pack. I’ve attached a screenshot so you can view the new options that’ll be available. You’ll be able to limit and exclude the categories that should be shown in the widget. So what you could do is create region specific widgets … oh, wait, darn! The links would still resolve to the directory home page. I could add an option, since I’m still rewriting that allow you to choose to link to the directory home page or a custom page. That would solve the issue if you can deal with the fact that you would need multiple widgets.
Will that help?

ParticipantLove the new changes for the widget you’re doing. I wonder how multiple widgets would work for region specific.I guess I wouldnt really know until I could see it visually, however it doesnt sound like a solution??
I would love to able to use one of the widgets eventually – categories or newly added. It would certainly be a missing feature for my site if I couldn’t use one. I’ve just changed wordpress templates and havent implemented any of the new features available but i’m tinkering with everything at the moment and also trying to make connections pro the best it can be on my site and region specific is important, particularly if I expand to overseas businesses.
Thanks Steven.

The ideal way would be to let Connections manage the category (region) separation. Maybe an alternative approach would be to rename the
cat
base tocoffee-roasters
and then rename the category slugs in Connections to match the region page slugs. That way all the URL you’ve already shared are fine. Instead of putting page links in your menu nav, you add “deep” link to the Connections categories (regions). The region specific info you have on each page could be added to the category description field. The category description can be configured to be display before the category entry results. This would result in a setup of pretty much of what you already have but manage by Connections. Now … with that said, the widget URL will still point the individual entry, not the category (region) page. It would be something like this:
http://cuptaste.com/coffee-roasters/name/piccolo-coffee-roasters/
I don’t know if that helps, but it does give you a bit more info to think about.
