GuestHi
As of last Friday (28 April 2017) the profile images on my Connections aren’t diaplaying in Internet Explorer 11. They do still appear in Chrome though. I’ve tried the JAVA tickbox in the admin console but still no images.
If I copy the image info from the code and use it in the address bar, the image appears in IE11, so it appears to be something with the way Connections is displaying them.

Can you please share a link to the directory page with the trouble?
What changes have you made to your site on or prior to the 28th, such as plugin installations/updates?

The 1x is not the problem. The
srcset
is a “new” (actually well supported for a while now) standard syntax to support responsive images. IE11 does not support this natively. This support is adde by Connections using the Picturefill polyfill. If the image URL/s are correct and the images do display when manually typed in the browser address by this indicates that either Picturefill is not being loaded on the page any more or more likely since this just happened. Another plugin or theme update is causing a fatal javascript error on the page, effective breaking all javascript after the error. You can check browser’s console (F12 and click the Console tab) for errors.
You can also try the the theme and plugin conflict tests:
- How do I check for a theme conflict?
- [How do I check for a plugin conflict?](How do I check for a plugin conflict?)
Hope this helps!

GuestHi Steve
I’ve tried a couple of other themes and the issue still remains in IE11.
Thanks

And what about the:
- How do I check for a plugin conflict?
- And, did you check the browser console for javascript errors? If so, what are they?

GuestHi Steve
Found the issue, when I un-check the ‘Display intranet sites in compatability mode’ in Compatability View Settings, the images came back.
Thanks
Karl

Ahhh… yes, that compatibility mode. Forgot about that thing. If I remember there’s an icon in the address bar too which can toggle it on/off. Compat mode basic turns IE back to version 6. Anything remotely modern will generally have issues… but in corporate environments with those legacy ActiveX webapps it’s needed.
Just an fyi… WP 4.8 will be dropping support for many older versions of IE 8, 9, and 10 so core WP admin stuff could stop working or be buggy in IE11 with comaptibility mode on.
