ParticipantI am not quite sure how the Login extension is supposed to work. I have installed both Login and Link. I want members to be able to log into their Connections account and update their profiles so I have a page where the Login form appears – its asking for username and password. What exactly field in the directory is the Username and when does a password get assigned and where can it be found?
I have tried to login with email address in username field and first and last name with no luck.
How is this supposed to work?
Thanks!06/02/2016 at 1:46 pm #378347Steven Zahm

You need to have your users register on your site before they can login. You can use the built WordPress user registration page or a plugin that adds user registration. here’s a beginner’s tutorial on how to enable user registration.
Once a user has registered, they then will be able to login to your site with Login at which point Link will link the user account and Connections entry based on email.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantHi Steven
I was able to get the login/link to work by creating the User Profile.
Just to make sure I understand how this connection works between the WP User profile and the Connections profile – the email address is the field that connects the 2 profiles, its that correct?
If I have profiles already set up in Connections I can create WP User profiles using the same email address then give members instructions on how to login via the Connections: Login Form widget.
It works this way for me – I am just trying to establish a procedure for our admins and members.
Thanks!

re: Just to make sure I understand how this connection works between the WP User profile and the Connections profile – the email address is the field that connects the 2 profiles, its that correct?
Yes, it is the email that creates the initial connection/link. After that link is established the email address will no longer matter. Meaning, the email can be changed and the in either the user profile or the Connections entry and the link will be persistent.

Yes, that will work just fine.
Hope I answered your questions thoroughly!
