The image for Michel Amyot was very large and it seems it was large enough that after the upgrade to WP 4.0 there was not enough memory to process it to make the thumbnail. I reduced its size by 50% and reuploaded it and things seem to be back to normal again.
I hope that helps!

I believe WP leaves the original image intact but it does create several different sized images, how many and what sizes really depends on the theme and the plugins you have installed. When WP or plugins need a specific image size it uses that cached image.
Connections is wired a bit differently. Rather than trying to create n-number of images right off the bat, it creates them on demand and then caches them for future use. When Connections create these alternative sizes it uses the original image. Really the process is the same, just happens at different point in time.
Hope that helps!

GuestSteven,
I’m having the same issue with our church website as well and not sure it’s an image issue. Everything was working fine until the last update and now nothing is visible in the manage section. With some entries I can use the search feature but others I can’t. Would you mind taking a look? Perfect plugin for our church directory and thank you for your support of the plugin. I have purchased the tile-plus template to use in our directory as well if that might make a difference in solving the issue. I have switched templates to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help!10/08/2014 at 8:31 am #306378Steven Zahm

Sure I’ll be happy to take a look asap. Create a temp admin account for me. Send the login details using the contact link at the bottom of the page. In the email, please also reference this forum post (paste a link to it) so I can relate the two.

It seems 42 entries must have very large multi-megapixel images uploaded and seems to be exhausting the memory assigned to PHP when trying to create the thumbnail used on the manage page. I manage to move them to the moderation queue so when you filter the list by approved, you can manage the remaining entries when you filter by
Approved. My guess even though the PHP memory limit is set at 256MB the host may have a smaller ‘hard’ limit.
What needs to be done is the entries in the mod queue is the original image needs scaled down. If you can give me a temp FTP login to the wp-content folder. I can download the images folder, run a quick scale script on the image and reupload. After that things will be back to normal.
What I’ll be doing moving forward is detecting large images on upload and scaled down the original images to a more web friendly version. That should prevent this from occurring in the future.

GuestThanks for taking a look at that Steve. Let me take a look at it tomorrow. I think I had a script that would resize in bulk. Do you what size the images should be? If I can’t make it work I’ll reach back out to you.
