ParticipantHello,
I have just updated our WordPress site to 4.0.1 and the connections plugin to the latest version. Usually when I update this plugin I have to manually correct the doc_root path but this time it seems I didn’t have to. However, I now have an issue with no results appearing on the page.
I noticed that the timthumb folder is not present in connection/includes/libraries. The only folder present is screen-options.
I imagine this is the problem for no results appearing but how would I fix this?

Connections no longer uses TimThumb, so no more issues with the doc root path. If the images show in the admin the new system is working just fine for you as it should because it is based on and uses all core WordPress functions.
I see you’re using Tile Plus … what is the exact shortcode you are using?

ParticipantThanks for the quick response. I’m glad to hear the TimThumb issues have been resolved!
[connections exclude_category='1,2,3,4,5,57']

In release 8.1, the
exclude_category
was fixed. It will now exclude any entries assigned to the listed categories rather than simply excluding the category. My best guess is that you’re entries are assigned the the excluded categories? Can you confirm?12/04/2014 at 12:10 pm #311748Zachary DeLand
ParticipantRemoving the exclude_category parameter fixed the no results issue!
What is the proper way to hide certain categories on the drop down list now?
Thanks!

Well, the
exclude_category
option was never intended to simply hide categories from the drop down, it was meant to complete exclude them and their entries. Basically, it was buggy. What you can do is create a “Specialty” category and move categories ‘1,2,3,4,5,57’ to be children categories and then Create a “Countries” category and move the countries to be children categories. You can safely make these changes. It will no affect how the entries are assigned or the parent child relationship you already have, ie, the states as children categories of the United States.
After made those changes, you can use the method outlined in this FAQ. The FAQ is for cMap, but it works with Tile Plus too.
Your shortcode would be something like:
[connections category='X'enable_category_by_root_parent=true]
X would be the category ID of the “Regions” category.
…
Now that I think about it more…
You do not even need the “Specialty” category or move the specialties. you just need the “Regions” category with all the regions under it for the shortcode to work.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantI created a category called “Regions” ID = 62.
I then made Germany and the United States children of Regions.
I then used the following shortcode:
[connections category='62'enable_category_by_root_parent=true]
There was no visual change in the drop down menu except that Regions was included as a root parent of the United States and Germany.
The other categories that I do not want to show in the drop down are still visible.
Thanks

Can you double check that shortcode … looks like you’re missing a space:
[connections category='62' enable_category_by_root_parent=true]

Oh, if you’re copy/pasting, make sure you do it while in the Text tab of the post editor otherwise you’re pasting HTML too which will break the shortcode processing in WordPress.

ParticipantI added in the space and it works perfectly now!
Thanks for all your help!
