Hey Steven,
I’m messing around with the new Names template for a couple usage options… I think it would be of benefit to have an ‘override’ in the shortcode that created the number of columns to be shown.
Let’s say I wanted to use template=names columns=1 category=dental etc… and put it in a text widget in a sidebar of a specific page. That sort of thing.
Thoughts? Thanks.

It’s not likely I’ll be adding options to the Names template. Its inclusion was primarily to support the new “View All” link. I was originally not going to make it available for use outside of that feature…
Now, with that said, I am working on another template, Phonebook which will be released before the end of the month. It’ll have this option as well as an option to define what should be shown on a single line. As you might imagine the default output will be %name% – %number%.
