I made a purchase with my creditcard. It showed a error when I finished paying. Now it shows that my purchase is pending. What do I need to do? Do I pay again, with the risk it will be billed twice?

When a credit card fails at PayPal, generally you have an opportunity to use another payment method. The reason this stayed as pending is, there was never a successful payment. Generally this happens because the page is closed or left without cancelling or completing the payment. When this happens PayPal never sends the success/fail message and the payment stays pending. Since the payment did not occur, it never will.
I hope that explains it clearly.
What I did is mark the payment as cancelled so you can know that you will not be double billed if you make the purchase again.
