I am looking at the best solution for a community directory. I have looked at and setup the data in Business Directory plugin but I now think that the templates on offer with Connections may suit my needs better.
I can of course export the csv file from Business Directory but was just wanting to check how I can import the data kin to Connections. I understand that I can’t import the logos but the most effective importing of the actual data is what I am looking for.

I have had a look through the FAQ but was just looking for some clarity on this.

Since Business Directory plugin has a CSV export option, you could use the Connections CSV Import extension to import into Connections. If you purchase the CSV Import, I can send you an advanced copy which has beta support for importing an entry logo and/org photo from a URL.

I just release an update to the CSV Import extension which includes the beta support of importing of the photo and logo from a supplied URL. Activate your license for the CSV Import on your site, and you’ll be able to install the update.

I downloaded and activated the CSV import. I exported from Business Dir but I’m not seeing the image urls in the export so I’m going to have to update the CSV file manually per entry before I can upload them into Connections. My only options is to export CSV or export Zip (CSV and the images files) :-(

if I import the CSV without the image URL, how can I assign it later? When I go to edit the entry, it only allows me to upload a file. Is there a way to select from my media gallery?

There’s no reference to the images at all in the export? I’m not really familiar with what is included in their export. Could you attach a copy so I can take a look?

That is the only way to upload the image. Connections does not use the Media Library because I have a lot of users who have thousands of entries, some with tens of thousands. Cluttering up the Media Library with all these images would make the Media Library difficult to locate anything when you actually needed it. And, since the files meta info is stored in the same place in the database where WP pages and posts are could potentially reduce performance of the entire site due the the extra resources that would be required for the database to sort thru that extra information.

I took a look at the sample you supplied. It seems there is a images column in the CSV file which contains the name of the image in the images.zip file.

If this images column only references a single image per row, that will work. What you would do is drop the unzip images folder on your webserver via FTP. I would suggest the uploads folder.

Then open the CSV file in Google Spreadsheets or LibreOffice Calc and create a new photo column. In the photo column create a simple equation which concatenates the URL to the uploads folder to the filename in the images column.

When you save the file, you’ll have a column which has the full URL.
