ParticipantSteve,
I am using the names template for my full directory view, it’s what the client wants, and it serves their purpose well, but they need last names to appear first. They like cmap for the individual view, which is easy enough to change the name order (%last%, %first% %prefix%) with the shortcode.
But to change the name order on the default templates, I have found that I need to change class-output.php. Is there another method where the name order can persist on the default templates after an upgrade?
I love that you’re so great about updating the plugin at regular intervals, your caliber support is nearly unparalleled in the community. So I’m not complaining, just hoping you might have a creative solution. Shame we cant use child plugins… sort of defeats the definition of a plugin though I guess.
What if made a template of my own, exact copy of names, but with the name order locked… is there a way? I had thought of doing this with cmap too, because my version is heavily modified (as youve seen). But when I created a duplicate, renamed it zmap, it didn’t take. Still showed up as cmap, so I had two instances of connections-cmap. I even went so far as to open up every file in cmap folder and locate each instance of “cMap” and “cmap” replacing the c with a z in every instance. Still showed as cmap.
Looking forward to your thoughts on this.
Thanks for everything Steve

Keymaster@ Mike
Install and activate this. It is a custom Names templates with the format you need. It’s also a basic example of how to use the Template API.
I hope that helps!

Oh, btw way, it is also on my to do list to improve the Template API further to allow to more easily override template parts, core or premium.
