When I add a link to text in a bio, a visible “http://” is added to the frontend text. I understand why the href would need this, but it should not be added to the visible text I want the user to see.

This does not happen on regular WP pages or posts, so I suspect it is a Connections issue.

I knew it made http text links into real links but it also does with text links that being with www. Honestly, I never really knew that until now. Connections applies a core WP filter called make clickable on the bio and notes before it is displayed. This filter automatically adds the http to both the www text and the href. There is no way to turn it off. What can be done is the make clickable filter can be removed. Install the Code Snippets plugin and add this as a new snippet:

add_action( 'plugins_loaded', 'cn_remove_make_clickable', 11 );
function cn_remove_make_clickable() {
    remove_filter( 'cn_output_bio', 'make_clickable', 9 );
}
