ParticipantI think I solved my problem with users creating their own entry rather than editing an existing entry for themselves. I have partial profiles and emails for about 150 of my 500 users. And partial profiles for about 250 others.
I am using a registration moderation plugin “Register Plus” which will make new users wait for moderator approval before getting a password for registration. I will add their email to the existing profile before approval.
When they login, the “link on login” feature will connect them to the existing profile.
“Form” will then display the custom edited form rather than the admin form. The”Say What” plugin doesn’t seem to have any effect on anything, so I’ll have to live with having Organization and department visible. Having the entry moderated should enable me to catch any silly changes.
Any flaws in this strategy?
Thanks for all your hand holding in this process.

Nope, I do not see any flaws … should work well. Of course you could run a quick little text by adding an incomplete entry for yourself and step thru the process yourself to see how the process flow works.
Say What? works for both Connections and Form equally well. Most text you can change by using the
connections
text domain. However, there are text field that are unique to Form so you would need to use theconnections_form
text domain. Same for Link, most text can be changed with theconnections
text domain but some require theconnections_link
domain. Sorry, the way things work that are not in my control a single text domain can not be used but I do my best to ensure as much possible can be affected by the `connections text domain.Hope that helps!

ParticipantConfusion in Mudville.
The first 21 entries (alphabetically) disappeared from the manage screen after I edited and updated my sample entry (number 21). They were still visible in phpMyAdmin. The edited entry was marked pending in phpmyadmin, and is listed as awaiting moderation on the dashboard.
When I clicked Update the screen returns to Manage with the 21 entries missing, and the entry still being listed as awaiting moderation.
Wait… I clicked further up the alphabet and then back to A so it brought back the first 20 items and then went to the moderate link above and approved the entry.
So, first lesson is Update is not Moderate.
All is good, I think, but why did the first 20 items disappear in Manage and would they have disappeared to a user of the web site? (I was too busy gasping for air to check using another browser.)

Not sure I understand, sorry … but my best guess is when the 20 entries “disappeared” you were viewing the Moderate list rather than the Approved list … guess the previous 20 has already been “approved”.

Another way you can think about this is… a WordPress post can be “Published”, “Draft”, “Private” or “Trash”. While in one of those views, the others are hidden from the view. Same concept except you have “Approved” and “Moderate”.
