ParticipantHey Steven,
Purchased the Link Extension today. The docs are a bit sparse so after install, ended up here in the forums.
This extension is really not very helpful – for two reasons.
1. It depends on the use of a top wp user bar
2. It requires that the edit be accomplished on the admin screen.I’m also using the WP-Types Toolset, UserProfilesPro and Events Calendar plugins…these all have front-end edit capacities, and they relate the ability to edit an item to the email address associate with the user who created the item…just like Link.
They all do it in a different way. WP-Types uses a short-code that can be added to the listing profile front-end view, and the edit link is then only visible to the creator of the listing when they are signed in.
Events Calendar assigns a page in the settings (page selector, either use the page automatically assigned or one of your choice).
UserProfilesPro has been developed as a front-end user profile plugin, and the edit profile feature is built in. It appears in a users profile if they are signed in, on the frontend, and can either redirect to a separate edit page, or switch from front-end view via ajax to the edit screen w/o leaving the front page.
I didn’t take this far enough to see if the edit screen populates the data from an existing record, but for sure, this is important, and the three plugins above all pre-populate the edit screen with the existing records info.
Sadly, I can’t use the Link Extension in its current form, and because I do not allow the members of the site to view admin toolbars or get into the backend in any way, shape, or form, I am forced to require that the member submit a new form if they want to make changes.
Is there any possibility of this changing in the near future?
Regards,
Will-

Yeah, there’s really nothing to configure and it does it’s thing in the back ground.re: This extension is really not very helpful – for two reasons.
Yes, for your use case.re: Is there any possibility of this changing in the near future?
In short, yes. Link 2.0, if Form 2.0 is installed will allow front-end editing. I just released Form 2.0 on Friday. This week, I plan on updating all the documentation for Form. Then afterwards, release Link 2.0 and then update it’s documentation – there’s actually a little more to explain in setting up especially with the Form integration. Actually the setup is very simple, there’s just one item that can be confusing if not explained thoroughly. With From installed a user could still submit entries, which are not linked to them while also allowing them to add/edit an entry which is. Basically the setup is to turn off the “Submit New Entry” action in Form. Link will add its own add/edit entry link.If you want, I can email you an advanced copy of Link. It is feature complete and only small tweaks are expected.
Oh, w/ Form 2.0, no dedicated page is required and no shortcode is needed. The shortcode will still work. I left it in only for backward compatibility. Form will now have it own “virtual” page.
