ParticipantI have link activated. I have directory entries already made. I have a setting that allows users with the company email automatically register and those people can see the “add my database entry” link, but they are not connecting to their own already established (by me) record. How do I make the connection between the people who are logged into wp and the database record that I’ve created for them?

My first suggestion, please ensure the configuration for Link is done exactly as outlined in the configuration instructions. Make sure you new users are set to be subscribers after they register. The actual user role when the user registers doesn’t really matter but it simplifies the configuration.
Also, take note of the tip about Form in the configuration instructions, that can be very important.
re: I have a setting that allows users with the company email automatically register
What setting is this exactly? It could be possible the auto registration is the reason for the link not to be made. If this “setting” does not populate the correct user’s email address, there will not be a way to link the user account to the existing Connections entry.

ParticipantOk. I checked the configuration and it was correct. I am a little confused. Our organization allows users to log in to WP using their userid (the first part of their email) and a password that they use across platforms. It recognizes their email and in WP settings there is a check box that says anyone with the @. email can register. When I select that, the link to add a new record appeared on the database when the user was logged in to WP through with company userid/password. When that box is unchecked, that option is not there for new people logged in via WP. (I had another person test on their mac laptop and it would not let them in to the organization log in page). I would much rather have people bypass the dashboard if at all possible or do front end updates and additions from anywhere, but I have entered records with their emails already. How does connections make that link happen? I’m missing something obvious, I am sure. Right now, with the settings I have, anyone from inside the organization can log in thru WP, add their own record (moderated) and can see it and update it if they log out and in. Now I just need for people to be able to open records that were previously created for them. Or, do I need to include login?

WordPress has no builtin feature as you describe… so, you must being using some type of plugin or something which is bypassing the normal WordPress login validation. Sorry for the really generic statement but not knowing details makes it impossible for me to help with specific advice.
RE: How does connections make that link happen?
The way Link works is it matches an existing WordPress user account email address to a Connections entry with an identical email address. If neither of those exist then a match or link will not be made.
From your description, it does not sound like there are any real WP user accounts. It sounds like the login validation is taking an email ID and password and validating it against … against, something… what that is, I can only guess maybe Active Directory or some other similar system.

ParticipantHi Steve, It is Active Directory. Is there anyway to pass the email from Active Directory to Connections?

So, there are no actual registered users in WordPress? the entire verification happens using whatever you are using to validate against AD?

ParticipantCorrect.

Ok, does the plugin have any type of option to auto create user after login validation? If it does, try enabling it.

ParticipantA user is created when they log in. I can see them in the user list.

Ok, so, is that WP user account populated with an email address … one that matches the entry in Connections?
