ParticipantHi again,
I’ve exported all the data from my old site into a csv file using tools- export all.
I am trying trying to import it into the new website. I’ve purchased a new license and it is active. I go into tools – import but the only option is import categories not the whole database and when I upload the csv file it appears to do nothing.

To import the exported CSV file you need the CSV Import extension. The better way to migrate just the Connections data from one site to another is the methods explained in my other reply to the thread you open on this topic.
The CSV Import addon is best suited for building the initial directory. If you want to go the CSV Import route, there’s two limitations. One due to export and one due to import.
The export limitation is that address/phone/email can only export one of each address/phone/email type. Meaning… An address can have any number of addresses assigned, but if two are “Home” then only one can be exported. However if one os “Home” and the other is “Work” both will export just fine.
The import limitation is that images can not be imported yet. That said, I do have a beat which does. So, if you purchase the CSV Import extension I will be more than happy to send you a copy of that beta.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantHi Steven,
I know this was a while ago so before I purchase the import extension please can you confirm if this is still the best way to export from my old website to my new one? also is the beta still available?
I’ve attached the .csv file I exported from my old site but when I go to the import section of the new site and click upload nothing happens…I’m guessing this is due to the import extension is missing.
Many thanks
Mathew

RE: can you confirm if this is still the best way to export from my old website to my new one?
If you data in the directory falls within the export limitation I mentioned in my last reply. Yes, this would be the easiest. If the data does not fall within that export limitation. The best way to is to migrate the Connections database tables.
RE: is the beta still available?
The beta I was referring to has actually been released already. There is now a new beta in which you can opt into receiving. This new beta’s primary focus has been far more performant imports when importing 10’s of thousands of entries. Improved user feedback of the import process with downloadable CSV files of entries which either failed or were skipped during the import. It also better deals with a few of the most common issues have run into. You can opt into the beta from the Connections : Settings Betas admin page.
RE: when I go to the import section of the new site and click upload nothing happens
The Import tools found on the Connections : Tools admin page? What do you mean by “*nothing happens”? Could you give more details on what you see?
Also, I must point out… That tools specifically says that it is to bulk import categories. Roughly once a month someone confuses that tool as a method to import entries despite its name, description and the documentations focus on categories. Is there something I could add/change that would have made that more apparent to you so I can help avoid further confusion?

ParticipantHi Steven,
All I really want to know is what is the best way to transfer all the data from this website:
http://guildofhomemakers.co.uk/164-2/pg/2/
into my new website. I have licences for both sites and I’m happy to purchase any plugin necessary as it will save hours of work.
I’ve installed connections and c-map in my new website but that is all I have done at this stage.
In response to your replies:
I exported the csv file using the export all option. When I go to import I choose the csv file and click upload, it appears to allow me to click but then literally nothing happens.
If you can help me on this I would appreciate it. Thanks!

RE: License check response returned NULL.
That error will occur when your site is unable to communicate with mine. There is nothing to worry about as that usually resolves itself.
RE: It is showing this for both the c-map licence and the import plugin. Neither are working???
License activation status does not prevent cMap or the CSV Import from functioning. The only limitation placed in the ability to receive in admin updates as they are released.
RE: so I’ve chosen the csv file to import, clicked MAP, tied up all the fields which the system automatically assigned correctly. I clicked import and it seemed to be working and said 100% complete, however none of the customers are showing???
Where are they not showing? The admin, the frontend, both? If you imported an export from another site, I expect you ran into this, covered in the Why is nothing being imported? FAQ.
So, you can either not the
Entry ID
column when mapping the fields or install the beta version I reference in this reply.Hope this helps!
