GuestI have a list of “Families” i am trying to import. I’ve already imported the individuals. What field to I need to map the “Family Name” to. I tried “Organization” using an Entry Type of “family” but the records imported as “Organization” and not “Family”

Sorry, but there is not a way to import Families. You have to import all the individuals of the families and then manually link them together as families.
Hope that helps!

Participant“Help” is not the first thing that came to mind but I do appreciate your prompt response. I guess If I had two feature requests for the future #1 would be the ability to export using the same mapping functionality as the import and, of course, ability to import families. Don’t see how the family import would be any different than the Organization but you know your code. I don’t mind doing the linking of individuals to families as a separate function, that is no big deal but perhaps you could add a “Family” code to the import table and let the user just supply their own linking GUID for family, then replace it with your internal linking functionality upon import.
The ability to EXPORT is critical though, so hope that will be added in the future.
Thanks, Tim.

I can definitely consider adding importing the Family entry type. I’ve added the request to my issue tracker as a feature request. I didn’t include it because of the need to manually edit the families to link the individuals. There really is not a way to do that step via the import because the linking is keyed on the entry ID the database assigns when an entry is inserted, something that can not be known beforehand.
As for export, that has been long on my todo list…
I do have this:
https://github.com/shazahm1/Connections-ExportThis is not a WordPress plugin and is not plug and play as its very low level with a somewhat complicated setup; see the instructions file.

ParticipantThanks, I may give that export a try after a bit. As I mentioned earlier, the manual linking is OK if that’s the best that can be done. It only takes a couple of seconds to link but it took me a few hours to create all new Families and then link them to the individuals.
Regarding a LINKED Family import, my thinking is that the user would supply a link field ID of their own that would match a link field on the Individual record. The work flow would then be to FIRST, import families with the link field included, SECOND import Individuals with the link field supplied. The procedure would then do a look up on the Family link field and then import the Individual with the corresponding Entry ID of the Family. If the Individual link field doesn’t match and existing Family Link field, The Individual is imported as Unlinked. You could supply some user feedback in the results such as “125 Individual Records Linked to Families, 3 Individual Records unmatched to Families” (perhaps show a list of the unlinked Individuals.)
My 2 cents. As always, thanks for your timely responses.
