We need to be able to print screen or print single entries to share among our volunteers. There are a number of custom fields added to the entries. Most of these entries are kept private – not published. We tried using the v-card but the customs fields are not shown in the v-card. What suggestions/solutions do you have for us?

The best method to print is to use the CSV Export tool to export all the entry data. Import that CSV file into an Excel file and then setup a mail merge in Word using the Excel file as the mail merge source data.

Since you have custom fields setup, you need to also configure those fields so the CSV export tool knows about them and will export that data too. Here’s tutorial on how to do export to a text field.

Once you export the CVS, how can you link the family and the individual records within a family? I also looked at the databases. There is no table to cross connect family with individual records.
I was looking at the family records and see that in the “Options” fields there is has reference the “family” entries. Is the a JSON format or something.
Would be nice if a CVS could also be generated with the cross link records, ie decoding the Options field and generating link records for each entry.

I am trying to create a records update sheet for each family and need the information to prefill an update form sheet. Have there old data on sheet and they verify/update as needed.

Yeah, sorry, there is not a way to link families together in a CSV file because the CSV file is a “flat” file. If you have an idea or suggestion on how exactly I could improve the export to accommodate this, I’ll definitely take it.

I think the simplest way would be to add a “entry_link” field to the wp_connections table. Since all record types are in the table, ie both family and individual, it would be easy to implement.

Use the entry_link field to store the parent id to connect the child to.
In a family (parent) record, the entry_link value would be the same the id of that record.

In a individual (child) record, the entry_link value would be the value of the id of the parent record if one is associated with it. If not, it would use its own id value.

Then the CVS export would have enough info for a query to separate the records into 2 tables and then have a query to extract what is needed.

Since I only had 140 records, I manually added the entry_link field to the CSV file I downloaded, then was able to do Excel queries to break apart the data to a usuable format.

Did you want sample of the spreadsheet I modified manually, the table update I suggested or something else.

Where is the code that creates the CSV file? I would like to check it out.
Also what routine parses out the information stored in the “Options” field of the connections table?

Yes, the spreadsheet, so I can see the column and equation you made. The code is found in the ../wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/export/class.csv-export-batch-all.php file.

The column config for the export is set up in the initConfig() method. The logic for the options breakout is in the exportBreakoutOptionsCell() method.

Here are some clips explaining how the linking would look/work.

The spreadsheet sample data clip shows and explains my added entry-link field.

The addr table clip show a link example from your address table linking address records to another connection record.

The connections clip show the layout of your connections table and where a entry_link field might be inserted.
