GuestI have connections pro and Link.
We used connections pro to create a directory list of managers.
I need to create a seperate directory of existing subscribers/users that are already created in the wp-user area – we have purchased Link but its not clear how to bulk import the hundreds of WP users into the connections directory, and how to ensure they receive the correct member categorization (as members, not managers)?

Link does not do bulk importing. When a user logs on, if a user has a matching email address with an entry in Connections then that entry in Connections is linked to that user which allows them to maintain that entry.
Link will not alter a user’s role or change any categories that were assigned to their entry in Connections, so any role the user was setup with and any categories assigned to the entry will not be changed. Does that answer your second question?

GuestHi Steven,
I’ve got the same issue… several hundred existing WP User/Members that I want to put into Connections directory. Here is what I’m thinking for a workaround. I’m wondering if it will work before I put it out to the users:Use the CSV importer extension and import all members and their contact information. Then ask them to log in and update their profiles for missing information and to handle any errors that may have occurred to the categorization (ie office phone listed as home phone, etc) If I’m understanding correctly Link should connect them upon log in with the imported information for their entry. Will that work?
If not, my second choice would be to send members a link to the editor and ask them to login and update. I’m just not sure everyone would be diligent about completing that task and I would have a less than complete directory for the membership.
PS I’m integrating with Wishlist member if that enters into your response.
Thank you!!

Apologies for the delay… I’m working on replies to all your posts right now.
Yes, if you use the CSV Import to import your users, when your users login with Link installed and active, they will be able to update their entry details with or without moderation. That’ll depend on how you set up the role capabilities after activating Link.
I would just do a test import of a couple dummy entries.
Create matching dummy WP user accounts.
Log out.
And then login in to each dummy account to make sure the Link is applied as expected. Some member plugins hijack the login process, not a bad thing, however Link does not get a chance to run to look for a match. If that is the case. I’m pretty certain I have a solid fix … it’s been an issue I’ve been tracking. Just let me know. You can give me a temp admin account and I can make a slight tweak that been resolving the issue for everyone else.Hope that helps!
