ParticipantI’m not sure if this is even possible but I’m hoping there might be a way to do this.
I’m using connections for a church directory. We have both individuals and families, so I’m displaying both individuals and families on the visible directory. The problem is that I don’t want the individuals who are linked to a family to be displayed in the visible directory. I just want their information or profile to be viewed when someone clicks on their name in the relations section for that family. I can’t just display families since there are also individuals not linked to a family, and vise versa. Is there any way to do this?

I haven’t really figured out a way to handle this well… what I end up doing for my church directory is simply adding individuals as a Family with no relations added.
Sorry that I do not have a better solution for you.

ParticipantI’m giving your suggestion a try, the only issue I’m coming across is that the person is no longer listed by their last name. If I had John Smith, with an individual you would find John Smith under “S” for Smith, with family John Smith is now found under “J” for John. Any ideas on how to fix this?

ParticipantI have also discovered that if I only display Family the relations no longer show up under the Families that have relations. After going through the shortcode options I can’t find anything to correct this.

I enter the names backwards… last, name.

I’m sorry, not sure I understand???

ParticipantOkay, I did do what you do with the names, entering them backwards, that will work.
What I mean about relations not showing up when I only display Family instead of displaying both Family and Individuals is that before I made this change and was displaying both Family and Individuals on the visible directory, under the Family name it listed the relations so someone could click on that name and go to their individual listing. But I’m assuming that choosing to display only Family in the visible listing is also removing the ability to display the relations under the family name. I want to be able to display the relations, and visitors to be able to click on those names to display their individual information.
I’m going to show you some screen shots of what I mean.
Screen shot with both Individuals and Family being displayed in the visible directory. http://awesomescreenshot.com/0c54sjiq38
Screen shot of individual information after clicking on relations name in visible directory. http://awesomescreenshot.com/08b4sjii54
Screen shot only displaying Family in the visible directory. http://awesomescreenshot.com/0fe4sjj14d
Maybe those will help you understand what I’m trying to explain.

ParticipantSorry, after making an edit I didn’t realize it was going to run together.

re: after making an edit I didn’t realize it was going to run together.
yeah, I hate that it does that… guess not enough to deep dive into the plugins code and fix it :/
re: displaying relations…
Changing the list type should affect the display of the relations. I just tested to make sure there was not a bug…
What is your exact shortcode?
This is what I just tested with:
[connections list_type='family' template='tile-plus' show_family='true']
NOTE: The template option is not needed if that is your active template. I need it because I run all templates at the same time on my site.

ParticipantI apologize for the late response to your reply. I had some other projects come up so I wasn’t able to get back to this until now. I was missing the show_family=”true”, which was why the relations of a family weren’t showing up. Even though this is a late response I at least wanted to let you know its fixed now, and to thank you for your help.
