ParticipantHi Steve,
I have The same problem as the previous people:
I’m getting “ERROR: Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.” when uploading the csv file.
- I tried to convert the file to .txt, no use.
- I download your file “column-headers” excel file, copy-paste almost 5000 entries to the files, then import, no use. I’m getting the same error message.
- I converted the above file to csv, no use. the same error.
- I converted the above file to txt, no use. the same error.
- The strange thing is, before I bought and installed the upgraded plugin, I COULD USE CSV IMPORT FUNCTION WITHOUT ERROR.
Since I’m not the first one and will not be the last encounter this problem, please solve it. The reason I bought the whole package IS the csv import function.
Thanks.

It’s been at least a couple years since anyone has had this WordPress error shown and the fix was as simple as changing the file name.
I know one other user is having the exact same issue. It is either a coincidence or perhaps the last security update WordPress pushout out a few days ago changed something that might have affected a very limited number of users in regards to csv file uploads (so far you and one other).
To learn more and address the issue, I’ll need a temp WP admin login and a FTP login. You can post the login details here as a private reply. Once I have the logins, I’ll take a look asap.

The WordPress security update to 4.7.1 seems to break the ability to upload several file types (mp3, some docx, etc). Unintended consequence no doubt. At this point, I am not sure what the fix is, but I am working on it.

ParticipantMy previous link didn’t work.
Installing ‘Disable Real MIME Check’ plugin fixes the problem for now.

It seems that the WordPress dev are aware of this issue and are working to fix it with 4.7.2. The WordPress Trac ticket is here:
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/39550
Until they have a fix and release it, they are recommending installing this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-real-mime-check/
Can you please install and activate this plugin and then try to import your CSV file?

I’ve read and reread the WordPress Trac ticket about this issue. I’m not certain if this is actually going to be considered a bug which requires fixing.
So…
I just released an update to CSV Import, version 1.4.2, which address the change in WordPress 4.7.1 in a secure way which should now allow you to upload CSV files again.
This update to CSV Import will (err should) work regardless of any changes that may or may not come with WordPress 4.7.2 in regards to this issue.
Hope that helps, apologies for the trouble!
ps. If you installed the Disable Real MIME Check plugin, you should deactivate and delete it.
pss. If you see this same error in the WordPress Media Library when uploading files, then you will still need the Disable Real MIME Check plugin installed. The change I made to CSV Import will not affect other plugins or WordPress when uploading files which throw this error.
