ParticipantJust started using Connections (or in the process of setting it up) so a medium size church converting from a paper directory where we currently have ‘family’ listings. Initially the idea of families attracted me to Connections, but I thought it might work better if done slightly differently:
The main issue I have is “family” entries showing up, so they get confused with individual entries, and then in the individual entries there isn’t any reference to the other family members. Obviously the family record is record to establish the relationships, the following two things could be done:
1. Have an option for the family records to not be displayed in listings or searches (but still editable in the backend for setting up relationships). By having it configurable people who prefer using the existing way still have the option to.
2. In a listing, for example “Mr Smith”, have an option to show his relationships which might list:
Wife: Mrs Smith
Son: Joe Smith
For example, where the names would be links to those records.I think this would make the family relationships more useful, being able to follow the links to the other family members.
I like the idea of it, but for now I’m going to leave the family relationships out of the mix because I think the extra search results may confuse the users. But thought I would share my ideal feature of this with you.
Thanks for all the work on this plugin, it’s pretty neat.
