ParticipantAfter the updated to WordPress 5.02 the connections plugin shows a lot of errors all of a similar kind related to the class.settings.api:
Warning: Cannot assign an empty string to a string offset in [REDACTED]/wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/settings/class.settings-api.php on line 973
How can it be fixed?
Thank you

Is the version of Connections you have installed up to date? The line number included in the PHP warning (warning are nothing to worry about) does not seem to correlate to the message being displayed.

ParticipantCan I just replace the connections plugin directory with the newest download files?
Will this help or is there any other adjustment to be done?

On the Plugins WP admin page, click the Update Now link in the Connections plugin row in the plugin table list.
Here is a link to a tutorial which describes how to update a plugin. The Update Now link is described under bullet point 1.

ParticipantI do not have the Update now option. What is the latest version of Connections?
Is this error unknown to other users? I haven’t touched the Admin panel since weeks and the WP update was done automatically…

RE: I do not have the Update now option. What is the latest version of Connections?
Are you the site admin? If not, you should contact that person and have them do the upgrade as only the site admin has the ability to update plugins in the WP admin.
RE: Is this error unknown to other users?
The version of Connections you have installed is over three years old now. There have been dozens of updates to Connections since. I suspect this warning message was dealt with long ago in one of those past updates.
Hope this helps! Let me know.
ps. It is considered a best practice to log, not display PHP messages on the screen on live public sites as that can reveal private information. You should see this tutorial on how to suppress these developer messages.
