ParticipantI run a large WP Multisite network where all of the owners of the child websites are assigned the role of Editor. As it turns out, if an Editor is logged into their WordPress website and they go to view our online directory (using the same browser – so they’re still logged in even though they are viewing the outward facing website), they cannot see most of the items listed for each individual, such as phone numbers, addresses, etc. They can only see the names, departments, job titles, logo image, and categories. However, when I am logged in as an Admin, I do not have this same issue. Please help!
Thank you!

Sounds like a user capability issue. Connections is activated on the subsites and not network activated, correct?
Verify the editors have their role capabilities set on the Connections : Roles admin page.

ParticipantHi Steven,
So Connections is actually ONLY active on the parent website – that’s where our online directory resides. All of the child websites simply link to the main directory on the parent website, and we use categories to keep the offices separated (in our case the categories represent regions and counties).
As far as Editor Roles are concerned, everything is checked except for the last item, “Reset Editor Capabilities”.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Hmmm. ok, click the “Reset Editor Capabilities” for the Editor role and save. Does that help?
If it does not, I’ll need a temp admin account with the same permissions as your admin account and a temp editor account. The details can be posted here as a private reply. This way I can get a closer look and determine the issue and fix it.

re: In WP Multisite, I don’t see an option to “Reset Editor Capabilities”. After consulting the Googles, I see that there is a plugin that may handle this called “User Role Editor” (https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor) – is this what you are referring to?
No, the option on the Connections : Roles admin page. Using this reset only resets the Connections custom capabilities to the role. It will not affect any other. So, It should be safe. But since I can log in now, I’ll just take a look.

ParticipantLOL! Now that I look at the screen you are referring to, I see now that I’ve been to that page and I actually referred to it in one of my messages above:
As far as Editor Roles are concerned, everything is checked except for
the last item, “Reset Editor Capabilities”.Forgive me, I’m fighting a cold and my head has been rather cloudy for the last several days… When you suggested that yesterday, I was thinking in terms of the overall WordPress related roles for users.
Thanks for your help Steven!

Admittedly I am far from an expert at WP Multisite… here’s what I did to “fix” the test editor user login you granted me.
I logged in as admin, navigated to the Network Admin : Site admin page. I then clicked the extension subsite and then Users tab.
Under this tab there is a “Add Existing User” option. I typed in the test editor username and selected Editor for the role and added the user to the site.
Now, when I visit the extension site as the editor user I can see all the entry details in the directory.
This does make sense as the user did not have the editor role on the subsite. So the solution seems to be to add all the editor users to the site.
I would say the actual bug or issue is that the entries were displayed at all. I think, because the entries and the details are set as public, so the logged in user should have been able to see them regardless.
I wanted to do a very minor tweak to the permissions logic using the plugin editor, but it is being blocked. Could you temporarily unblock it so I can make this tweak? I believe this will not require you to add all the editor users to the site.

ParticipantHi Steven,
Thanks for looking at this. The Extension site is the “parent” site, and we do not wish to give any of the “child” website Editors rights to be able to edit the parent website. That would be a problem for us if I added all of the Editors as users to the parent website.
The Plugin Editor should be available to you if you are logged in as Admin – you have Super-Admin rights. Navigate to My Sites > Network Admin > Plugins, and then on the left side you should see the link for the Editor under the Plugins section. Please let me know if you do not see this.
Thank you!

ParticipantSteven, all of a sudden we are seeing a “Failed to write file to disk” error when we try to upload files into the Media Library. I was just wondering if you might have changed some permissions somewhere that would have effected our ability to upload files? Thanks!
