GuestHi,
I’m using your Easy Table of Contents plugin and am trying to figure out how to customize the TOC in terms of the content itself.
For example, the plugin can create one automatically based on the Headers (h1, h2, etc.).
But what if I want the text to be different than what’s in the headers?
Example:
The TOC displays this:
- How to golf properly
- How to play video games
But the paragraph headers display this:
- Golf
- Video games
Thank you and I look forward to your response! :)

Edit the page in which you want the TOC items to have different text than the actual page headings.
Scroll down to the Table of Contents metabox.
Here you will find an alternate text feature.
Use this to change the TOC items text.
Hope this helps, let me know!

GuestHey Steven,
That helped a lot, thank you!
My only question is how do I manually insert the TOC anywhere in my post? I see the option to auto insert, but I’d like to place it in a certain location in the post.
How can I do that?
Thanks!

GuestHey Steven,
Actually, I couldn’t figure out how to alternate the headers. I scrolled all the way down and tried to alternate it, but it wouldn’t work.
Here’s what I put, https://prnt.sc/kpjd2t.
I even tried the following combinations:
Level [1.] | Chocolate
Level [1.1] | Chocolate
Level [1] | ChocolateLastly, how do I manually place the TOC anywhere in the post?
Thanks, Steven for all your help and support! :)

You can’t use the sample alternate
Level [1] | Chocolate
heading text to change yours. You need to use the heading from your post.Example:
A heading from in your post content might be:
How to golf properly
You want this to be displayed as
Golf
in the TOC.You would use this:
How to golf properly|Golf
Capitalization matter — the original heading you enter must match exactly as it is in the post. If it does not, it will not get replaced in the TOC with the alternating heading.
To place the TOC anywhere within the post content you can use the
[ez-toc]
. Please note that you can use this for manual placement, it is not officially supported.Hope this helps!

GuestHey Steven,
Thank you so much for explaining it more clearly! I really appreciate it!
I was able to get both of the functions working (manual placement and alternate headings).
What do you mean by it is not officially supported?
Thanks! :)

GuestHey Steven,
Is there a way to change the name “Table of Contents” to something else? http://prntscr.com/kpuxrz
Thank you and I look forward to your response! :)

GuestYou don’t have to respond to the last two questions and can mark this problem as resolved. I was able to figure it out.
Thank you so much, Steven for all your help and support! I really appreciate it! :)
