I need to make a filtering option by U.S. States. I was thinking the best way to do this was to enter a state for the “Region” and then make the Region linked in advanced settings. However, I do not see a field to enter a Region value for any of the entries. Am I missing something obvious?
The state in the address is the region. The word “state” is the US centric term for “region” I hope that helps clear up the terminology being used. So, enabling the region link will do exactly what you want.
I hope that helps!
I think what we really need is a dropdown box with all the U.S. states. When a state is selected, the appropriate filter (from region) is applied for the results.
Is this possible to do without making each state into a category?
Sorry, no, not out of the box. If you know PHP and WordPress plugins, it wouldn’t be difficult to custom code.
Oh, you could use a WordPress menu widget and build one. Create a new menu (under the Appearance menu) in WordPress add a Link to each state like so:
Add one for each state. It is a little work but it once and done.
Now you can use the WordPress Menu Widget and place that sate menu in your sidebar.
Hope that helps!
