I was hoping to be able to disallow adding entries to the root category.

For example if my category architecture is as follows is the a way to disallow posting to the ‘Directory Home’ category

Directory Home (being the root category) > Suppliers > Wholesalers

I do not want to have hundreds of entries showing in the root category and from experience that is what is going to happen. I would rather users selected a category. If directory listings could be set as featured for the root category that would be OK.

I hope this makes sense. I am a newbie here but have built other directories in other CMS systems.

I’m assuming this is in relation to the Form extension? Is so and I understand correctly the following filter should do what you want:

add_filter( 'cnf_shortcode_atts', 'cnf_group_by_parent' );

function cnf_group_by_parent( $atts ) {
    $atts['parent_category_group'] = TRUE;
    return $atts;
}

Use the Code Snippets plugin to add this filter. Hope this helps, let me know.
