ParticipantThis is a problem I’ve had before and you eventually fixed by logging in to my site. I’m not sure why it keeps cropping up, but it’s very frustrating. Some businesses listed on the this site have half their information hidden, even though it’s listed as public in the directory entry. For some I can go in and clean up (there are some extra entries of the same phone number or email that crop up even though I didn’t add them) by getting rid of extraneous entries and save the entry. But it doesn’t work for all of them. Can you tell me why this occurs and how I can protect the site from having this happen again?
For instance, Craftiques only shows name and phone number but it should also list address and email, both of which are set to public.

A second issue – one member wants several websites listed and some time ago I found a solution, but can’t find it any more. I made a change that allowed several websites to be seen, but it got wiped out during an update. I thought I had done it in such a way as to protect from that, but obviously not.
Connections and the templates are the best solution I’ve found for member directories, but these problems with duplicate and missing information are incredibly frustrating.

Can you please go back and read the thread from last year?
http://connections-pro.com/support/topic/addresses-disappear-when-edit-entries/As explained in that thread, for some reason, back then, the update didn’t properly migrate the data to the new database structure. I went in and forced the update which I said would cause duplicate data when you go and edit an entry, but that the duplicate data would not show on the frontend of the site. When you edit an entry, you’ll have to remove the duplicates. So the duplicates is not a new issue and is not happening again. Unfortunately the only solution will be to remove the duplicates when you edit an entry.
With that said, the entry should show all the data, minus the duplicates, that is set as public. I went to your site and looked at the Craftiques entry that you pointed out. I see that is has the name, phone, address and email. Please see the attached screen capture of what I see when I visit your site. Unless you fixed it, it seems to look right to me according to your description.
Multiple websites … not sure what change you made before as I could not found any discussions we had… but here’s how to do it with Tile Plus.
Go to the Member Directory page and edit it.
You should have the[connections]
shortcode on that page. You may or may have set some shortcode options step. Regardless you need to addenable_website_link=false show_links=true
to the shortcode.
The final shortcode shold be somethinf like this:[connections enable_website_link=false show_links=true]
I hope that helps!

ParticipantSteve, thanks for your quick response. I see that the changes I made to Craftiques eventually showed up – there must have been a caching issue – I didn’t see the full entry for a while after I made updates. I’m still puzzled why half her data wasn’t showing until I re-saved her entry. The same happened with a dozen or more entries – I’ve since gone into each one and re-saved and the full data is appearing in the front end. Any idea why it disappeared?
Thanks for the links shortcodes – I did have show_links=true but not the enable_website_link=false. At first it did not fix the entry (Scott Machine) but after fiddling with the rest of the shortcode for that website it is now working. Having an exclude_category before the links shortcode seemed to prevent the links code from working.
All is good — many thanks,

If changes are not appearing right away, that almost has to be a caching issue. I did look for signs of W3TC and WP Super Cache. Are you perhaps using any other caching plugins?
Also, the shortcode … sounds like you might have HTML or other invalid code within it. Make sure you always work with shortcodes using the Text tab and not the Visual tab. I suggest going back switching the to Text tab and remove anything that should not be there. Another item to check for, make sure fancy single or fancy double quotes are not being used. WP only supports using straight single or straight double quotes. On screen, the difference is very subtle. The fancy quotes will have a very slight slant to them. It could be easier just to re-type the quotes while in the Text tab, that’ll ensure the fancy quotes are not being used.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantIt’s not that things are not showing up right away – the issues I was talking about were longtime members whose information was in there for over a year and I just noticed some fields weren’t there. When I went to look at the entry, saw the information was indeed on the back end, I re-saved the entry. At that point caching was an issue and I didn’t see that it was refreshed until after you wrote last night.
The Walton Chamber site is on WPengine so whatever caching they use is in place.
I usually do the shortcode on the Text TAB (not HTML) but it’s possible I’ve overlooked something – thanks for reminder of that.
This chamber site is in pretty good order now and I am using it on a new, different chamber project. It’s such a good plugin for this information.

If you’d like, could you share the link to the other chamber site? And may I list them as live samples?

ParticipantYes, feel free to list both chambers.
Walton NY Chamber of Commerce is built using Tile Plus:
http://waltonchamber.com/member-directoryThe Franklin NY Chamber is new and in the process of being populated, so is currently a bit skimpy. I’m using cMap for this one:

Thanks, I just added both sites to the respective template product pages.
