GuestI would like to begin with Connections and add a dozen or more custom meta fields so that each business is providing far more information. For example, I want the business to display all of their contact information, all of their social account links, and several additional tabs where additional information could be displayed in addition to Bio and Notes. Is it possible to add more fields and informational tabs and is there any coding limitations on the number of new fields and new field types Connections allows or supports in its plugin?
Are there any geniuses out there who can accomplish some customization cost-effectively to upgrade the Connections plugin to add far more fields and several more information tabs?

re: all of their social account links
There is already a repeatable field for social media links :)
re: Is it possible to add more fields and informational tabs
Yes, it is possible to add custom metaboxes and meta fields within them. Add them does require knowledge of PHP or require a dev to add them.
re: is there any coding limitations on the number of new fields and new field types Connections allows
No, there is not.
re: or supports in its plugin?
Connections has builtin support for all the most common field types. And, custom field types can be added quite easily. One such example of a custom field type is the Hours extension.

I’m nowhere near a genius, but I do offer custom development services if you are interested.

GuestCan I create a custom field that applies to all the listings ?
I have a csv file that has fields such as Research Topic, Research Description, etc. How can I create custom text fields such as these, that show up in all my listings without having to create custom fields for each listing ?
Thanks

Yes, see this on how to add a text field.
See this on how to make the text field importable with the CSV Import extension.
Hope that helps!

GuestI have a similar related question…
Once these custom fields are created, can they be made searchable by other Members (ie.; I work in x industries, I’m interested in x disciplines, and my customers are x. I want to find people in the organization who have similar profiles to connect with.)
Also, to make life easier, what Membership plugins work well with this plug in? Ideally, I’d like to have someone join, pay for membership, be given a login, and enter in their profile info all in a fluid sequence of steps.
Thanks,
Michelle

re: Once these custom fields are created, can they be made searchable by other Members
Yes, it is possible but would have to be custom coded which would not exactly be easy.
re: Also, to make life easier, what Membership plugins work well with this plug in?
Sorry, I do not have any recommendations… I’ve seen people use all sorts of membership plugins. Generally the process is the same, user fills out, pays, gets password. After user is logged, the most common solution I’ve seen is that there is a member “dashboard” frontend page which gives the user instructions/links on how to do various task such as adding the entry and making changes.
Hope that answers your questions thoroughly!
